2 Gun Scoped Rifle Case Suggestions

May be true on cheap scopes, rails and rings but that's not set in stone.

Both rifles I’m taking have Nightforce NX8’s in NF rings. I’ve traveled all over North America with them in Pelican cases that were laser cut by the gun builder. I was just hoping to be able to take one case with both rifles.

I do not take my scope off, if the gun gets lost or stolen I won't need the scope. besides I insure through my home owners policy replacement cost of everything and it is very cheap. don't forget your 4457 from from customs and your SAPS permit and a travel agent like Jennifeer with Travel Express

My rifles always travel with the optics on. I’ve never had an issue.

travel express is handling flights and everything. They suggested Africa Sky to handle the firearm stuff in Johannesburg. The 4457 is the same form I used to enter Canada?

you will like Africa Sky and make sure the 4457 is signed in the same year you travel.if it was signed last year 2024 you will need a new one for 2025

So most everyone removes their optics before travel? I did not realize that.
No, neither I nor the guys I have traveled with ever removed our scopes. Ok, one did but it was a seriously expensive scope for PRS purposes.
First couple of trips my rifle went in a Peli 1720. Long and bulky. Then I wanted to bring a second rifle. Ok, both fitted in ok. Pain in the backside moving it around airports etc, packing into the PH’s transport.
One thing I noticed is first thing after all the welcome chat, a few beers and a good nights sleep is “down to the range to check your rifles”. Also being checked is you, your firearms handling, familiarity with same and your capabilities.
So why not take a more compact case ? I settled on a Peli 3220. Action and barrel out of the stock. One or two rifles will fit in and it’s simply two screws to tighten up on arrival. POI shift has been minimal.

Get Blaser R8’s and fit them in a smaller & lighter case. :ROFLMAO:

IIRC, the big Americase or other aluminum units incur an oversize baggage fee, One of my buds used an Americase and had to pony up an extra $200 at IAD and that was in 2014. By the time we got back to the U.S., it was beat up, bent up and abused. YMMV.
I had a special order Americase made for 2 rifles and 2 bows. It was very heavy and had no wheels. When I got it off the airlines it had a very large dent in the end that show a perfect imprint of a rifle muzzle! I do not use it anymore.

I use a Nanuk like Odonata and have been very pleased. Well built in Canada.

On my last trip, I used a Pelican Vault V800.

I wasn't exactly sure how to use it to carry two scoped rifles. I called Pelican and talked to a representative.

He told me that the case was designed to hold guns very tightly and not to cut the foam.

He told me to put each rifle on a separate level of foam and remove the bolts to keep the bolt handles from punching through the foam, and pad the bolts.

My rifles made to from ATL to EWR to JNB to TET and back again without a problem.

Thanks for relaying that tip. I didn't put my two rifles in separate layers and the muzzles scratched the finish on adjacent butt stock. Not a big deal because I planned to refinish both stocks anyway. My solution was to put slip-on recoil pads on both guns for protection. But I like this solution better. Surprised I didn't think of it. The case comes with four layers of foam, each a different thickness.

My son has two of these Harbor Freight cases. There is very little difference in these from the original Pelican's and they seem to be a very rugged case.

Probably a patient infringement by the ChiCom's, but if you want to save some $...

I switched to Tuffpaks. They are easier to load and easy to pull the guns for inspection.
Pelican 1750 is great as well.

You can also put each gun in one of those knit gun socks. We’ll help protect against rubbing. But not serious impact.

I’ve used a TuffPak on both my trips. Holds the two rifles in heavily padded cases and my shooting sticks (I take my own sticks as on my first hunt the PH said he had sticks, but they were a beaten up set of BogPod without a yoke at the top,and a bolt sticking up. Glad I had mine along.) I put a jacket in the bottom for padding and to save room in my duffle. NOTE: Some have experienced issues with clothes in the TuffPak, but I think that is when the guns are surrounded by clothes.

GunFoam.com will sell custom cut foam AND a case to house your rifles for a very reasonable price. I posted a thread on my experience doing so. They are top notch people to work with and I'd not hesitate to do it all over again.

Here's the link to the thread if anyone is interested. Feel free to contact me if you need any help in the process. It's not too bad, but there are a few tips that make the final product a little nicer.

I have the SKB Double case and it’s been fine. I must have 8-10 domestic trips and two trips to Africa on mine…plus countless trips to the local range in the bed of my truck. (https://www.skbcases.com/products/double-rifle-transport-case-5009)

My only complaint is that it doesn’t come equipped with conventional lock holes. I added a couple metal brackets and riveted them on so I can use a normal lock when needed.

$420 and you had to jerry-rig lock hasps? The case in the link you posted seems to also have added-on lock hasps. Looks like something baggage apes could tear off relatively easily. You might want to look at Pelican. Their integral lock holes are generous for conventional padlocks and reinforced internally with thick metal.
