Just a heads up, I believe those are nickel plated, not true stainless steel. Please correct me if I've got that wrong though!

I have a stainless MkV in 340 Weatherby that was made here in the US and the SN starts with SS

Same here, I have a 300 Weatherby stainless that starts with serial numbers SS. They also have the classic Weatherby style stock. The ones with traditional comb like the above are nickel coated standard steel actions. Not sure about the barrel material.

It is not stainless, it is electroless nickel. Weatherby made these Mark V electroless nickel rifles in the mid to late 90’s with a blackened floor plate, prior to offering stainless steel rifles then stopped offering them in electroless nickel because the process cost too much and went with stainless steel. Some Weatherby aficionados consider it superior to stainless steel, better rust resistance.

Although not actually marked Alaskan on the rifle, it was marketed as the “Alaskan.” They are somewhat desirable to Weatherby collectors and this information can be verified on the Weatherby forums. Excellent price for this package. GLWS.
