This is more a question out of shear curiosity than of any pressing importance.

I've seen references that a number of African countries prohibit international hunters bringing rifles in "military" calibers. While recognizing the limitations of .303 Brit, I was wondering whether the caliber was old enough to no longer be regarded as a "military" caliber for the purpose of the import restriction?

Hi Hunter
I am not sure about restrictions in African countries, but can only speak on my own experience. I own a dead standard military 303 British rifle, and to be quite onest I would not hesitate to take any African animal except for , elephant, rhino and buffalo.
I generally think alot of hunters me included get caught up way to much with this caliber is far better than another. That being said if you shoot any living animal with poor shot placement , guaranteed death will be far and the animal will suffer.
It seems the new fashion is to hunt at extreme distances...way beyond what I would describe as hunting as there's almost no stalk in the process.

That's just my 5c worth.

Keep safe and healthy.

Regards,

Bosbeer Bekker

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
