375 Ruger Guide Gun Issues

The wonderful people at Ruger were working today so my lgs that ordered the rifle for me were able to get ahold of customer service and the rifle is currently on its way back to Ruger. I fully plan to buy some aftermarket quick detach rings for the gun but I believe it should be able to shoot with the factory rings just fine. Thank you for all the advice will update when I learn more.

Tried another scope I had to take off a different rifle last night that was zeroed on it. After centering the reticle in that scope which was barely off of center. The rifle still shot 20” left.

Once again, it appears you didn’t bore sight. You installed a scope, but nowhere do you mention going through a proper bore sighting process.

Sorry I haven’t address this I have never bore sighted a rifle when mounting a new scope, I understand it can save time and ammo but isn’t necessary to sight in a rifle.

Were the rings rough on the inside? Most of the Ruger rings I've had are kind of rough from the casting process, and need to be lapped. But before I learned about lapping I never had accuracy problems, just bad ring marks. Anyway, even if the rings aren't visibly rough or causing apparent damage, they could've been out of alignment and you may not know it.

This video explains how even if the sharp points in a Wheeler alignment kit line up, scope rings may not be aligned and could be causing issues. This is not changed by how carefully the carefully the rings are tightened, it's just that the geometry of the ring-mount system can be off.

My dad had this same issue awhile back with a Ruger M77. The scope slots were machined off center.

I have seen that several times and have sent back rifles to Ruger for barrel alignment, scope slots cut at angle, holes drilled off center. Most recently this past week, African 375 Ruger Non Lipseys model that has threads and brake. Gun shot 3/4 in with no break, 2+ inch group with brake, not on paper with silencer. It's at Ruger now. Threads were off center of bore, getting bullet rub on brake and baffle strike.

So not related to the rifle but I am going to mount a Leupold vx5 2-10 on the rifle and I want to use quick detach rings what does everyone think of the warne vs the Alaska arms rings

Well I shot it this morning at 50 yards and the rifle was shooting 21.5” left and 6” low. I adjusted the scope 45 clicks to the right and 12 Clicks up and fired again hitting 16.5” left and 4” low. So it looks like the scope is tracking well and the rifle shoots consistent. I would need another 120 clicks left and another 24 clicks up. The elevation seems normal to me but the windage being off this far has me stumped. Thinking about trying a new scope next but I truly doubt that is the issue. Starting to think it is either in the rifle or rings. Any advice or help is appreciated.
It sounds like you have tried everything and a few tricks, my only humble thought is that is this is a new rifle and the first scope mount is that it is drilled and tapped wrong. Low probability but seems like the only thing left?

This is a Ruger rifle using proprietary rings from Ruger, I will be trying new rings once I get the rifle back but I will be trying the Ruger rings first.

You are correct and I am wrong...not drilled and tapped

Both QR mounts are excellent. I live about a mile from Warne and know the folks there quite well. Their customer service is stellar. I recommend getting your rifle back first and doing a re-shoot with the factory rings to see if your main problem has been solved. I would also buy a wheeler scope lap kit and scope mount alignment points. These will confirm your rings (regardless of brand) are aligned properly and centered, I have both 1" and 30mm, and every mounting job gets the alignment verified.

Best and Good shooting!

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
