What is everyone's favorite bullet for the .458 Lott?

We are working on load development to add additional bullet options to our current Safari Ammo offerings.
Your feedback would be very helpful.

CEB BBW#13. 450 grain. Thanks!

We had been pretty heavily focused on the 500 Gr North Fork and Cutting Edge bullets, and then added the 470 Gr Raptor... but the North Fork 450 Gr Cupped Point Solid and 450 Gr Semi Spitzer loads are being finished up now. We will look at expanding the C.E. bullet options in this caliber for sure.

Welcome to the AH Forum Finally!!!

Pendleton Ammunition is my go to for hunting ammo. They are also working up a load for my 404 Jeffery.

Those North Fork Semi Spitzers are shooting about 2300 Fps out of your Jeffery and we are just fine tuning the load to tighten up the grouping.

I am gradually switching from another ammunition company to Pendleton ammunition. I started trying their 300 WinMag and was impressed . I have gone with their .375 Swift A-Frame and extremely happy. I just ordered in 416 Rigby Swift A-Frame and North Fork solids. What I really appreciated Steve West taking the time to discuss with me different loads in my guns. He personally called me and kept me in the loop when the ammunition was going to be field tested and called me when they were shipping my products.
I like great customer service and so far he has exceeded my expectations.
If you haven't tried Pendleton Ammunition I suggest you give them a try or call Steve talk to him and about your wants or needs.
Trust me I am not getting paid nor getting anything free but just wanted other shooters to be aware of their products and their customer support.

Has anybody compared the penetration of a 450gr. vs. 500gr. bullet (specifically Barnes TSX) in the Lott? Maybe it's a moot point but just curious.

I have had the opportunity to use two brands of bullets in Africa with my .458 Lott so far.

The first one is Barnes that is known by everybody. But at that time, I loaded a pretty lightweight bullet for the caliber, because I used the TSX 350 gr. It worked great on plains game from warthogs up to girafe. It also offers a flatter trajectory in comparison to heavier bullet commonly used.

The second brand that I'm using now is far less known. My bullets are made in the north of Belgium by Wim Degol. It's a family business and they provide excellent quality bullets. I have heard they export now quite a lot of their production into the USA. In African calibers, they have a kind of triad bullets like the ancient A-Square's.

-The Lion Load is a soft nose. It is a bit shorter than the 2 others, because its jacket is pretty thin in its front. But at the opposite of the Lion Load from A-Square, its core is bonded and the rear of the bullet has a very thick jacket. It provides a quick expansion, but also a great weight retention on game. I used it quite a lot with a total success on many plains game.

-The Starkmantel is also a soft nose bonded bullet, but it is toughter and it provides a great weight retention. Great bullet for buffalo and girafe.

-The Vollmantel is a FMJ bullet with a very thick jacket at the front, and the lead core is also bonded.

I'm using only the 500 gr category in .458" and they shoot the same POI very easily in my rifle. They work great on games and they are pretty cheap in comparison to others.

Yes, the heavier bullets had better penetration in testing.

Not 458 Lott, but I’d really like to see the cutting edge safari raptor in 375. No one else offers it except custom hand loads. I’ve been really happy with your ammo so far in 300 and 375 H&H.

That is definitely one we could build for you on a custom basis... all of our ammo is hand loaded, and if that is a bullet you want to shoot give us a call and we can discuss how to develop and send you that ammunition.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
