500 Pirro

It's all about who has the biggest weapon..sorry I ment shoulder mounted firearm

Real men shoot the Simonov PTRS 14.5 x 114 mm (.586"/4.5"). It takes 656 gr of powder to throw a 1,026 gr bullet at 3,300 fps, and delivers 24,520 ft/lbs to the quarry.

However, its hunting use is limited to perfect broadside shots at soft skinned PG because it only perforates 40 millimeters (1.5") of rolled homogeneous armor steel (RHA) at 100 meters.

Would suggest considering an Improved version with decreased body taper and increased shoulder angle to get something a little more serious for DG...

:)

Meh...steel cases...can't handload, probably won't regulate in a double rifle and the pressure will probably cause poor extraction...besides the .375 Ruger is out performing it from short barrels.:ROFLMAO:

Nice..how many gun bearers would I need to engage to sleph that on a 10 day safari .remember I only need 1 shot.

Weren’t you the one who had to add he has a 577? Just saying o_O

Out of the 3 I said I think the Wells was first.

I’m thinking of it in terms of the excess velocity and this recoil of a .460 Weatherby. My Lott shoots a 500 gr bullet at 2,300 fps. It is very manageable and is decisive on big game. The .460 fires that same bullet at 2,600 fps, producing punishing recoil for velocity that is unnecessary at big game ranges and potentially detrimental in terminal performance. As you step beyond the .45 caliber, 500 gr projectile into larger calibers, the proven performers are hurling their slug down range at 2,100 to 2,200 fps. So to me, the 500 Pirro does not sound appealing or practical at all.
I have a 500 A-square and to me it is the most common sense 510 cartridge available. It is built on a 460 Weatherby case which is easily fire formed to the 500. Mine is built on a 602 action and I shoot 570 grn Barnes X at around 2400. It is not unpleasant to shoot, cycles perfectly. I have taken 2 buffs in Uganda and a giraffe in Namibia with it.

I was able to buy 20 head stamped 510 wells from Wells sporting store in Prescott . I beleive minimum order of head stamped brass is 2000. I dont need that many, though it adds value to the rifle if it is ever sold. True, vergin 460 brass is easy to buy ,works fine.

I will post photos of the 500 pirro, and the 510 wells, just so you can see what I am talking about.

I am turning 63 this yr. Started hunting in 1972 so I have covered some ground. What I have uses were / are 375.375imp, 45/70, 348/450, 577/450, 458,458 lott,416 rigby,416 rem,338 lapua, 470 nitro, 500 Jeffery. 505 gibbs, 300 weatherby, 510 wells express, 500 pirro. No one seems to have heard of this wildcat...what I am looking to find out is, what came first 510 wells or the 500 piero. Both the dies and barrel are stamped 500 Pirro.
No .465 H and H?

No I don't think anybody is shy here. Most have common sense, have a very good idea what works and what does not on African DG. A 500 Pirro I suspect is not one of them.

Last time I shot one of those it was mounted on the front of a Casper and was fed with a belt, the last call on the radio was "Contact, contact, wait out...."

Perhaps you could share with us exactly what this is?
I thought only the Nepalese Army used the belt fed .500 Pirro? Huh?

I had forgotten that I had asked the question about 510 wells express and the 500 piero. Photos of ammo ,dies ,and rifles .soon

It seems to me here that what started out as a simple inquiry about a particular cartridge has turned into all kinds of opinions that really have nothing to do with whether said cartridge exists and if possible, ballistics same.
