I was fortunate enough to draw a mt. goat tag this year in Alaska. I am planning on taking my 7PRC for this hunt. I had been using 170 grain Terminal Ascent ammo, loaded by Federal on deer and pigs here at home and have been very pleased with the performance. I ordered a case back in January and it has been back ordered and I only have 1 box, so not enough to practice with and take hunting. I have gotten some Nosler 175 grain Accubond Long Range to try and they seem to shoot well in the rifle. I plan on doing some more shooting with them this weekend to see for sure how they will do. I am hoping to get some feedback from some folks that have actually used the Accubonds on game out of a 7PRC. Any insight or feedback would be appreciated.

Also, if anybody has a couple of boxes of the 7PRC, 170 grain terminal ascents they’d be willing to part with, shoot me a PM and let’s make a deal. Thanks

Have you tried Hornady 180 gr ELD-M in your rifle? The reason I ask is this past November, I did an elk hunt and used the outfitter's Best of the West 300 PRC. We used the 225 gr ELD-M ammo. With factory ammo, we were ringing the gong at 500 yards. I shot my 7x7 bull at 240 yards, one shot.

My outfitter mentioned that the Best of the West guys, as well as the Gunwerks guys, all recommend the Hornady ELD-M as a hunting cartridge for their PRC rifles. As a plus, you can usually find it for $40 a box or less.

I would use the accubond if they shoot well, and as @375 Ruger Fan says, any of the Hornady loadings in the ELD-X or the M should be good. I don't have a 7PRC, but I do have a 300PRC and it shoots factory Hornady ammo just as well as my handholds.

Appreciate the info. I hadn’t considered the Hornady offerings. I’ll pick some up and give them a try as well.

I’m curious, what powder are you using with the Accubonds? I haven’t been able to locate reloader 26 anywhere. Definitely make sure you chronograph hornady ammo before hunting. I have the outfitter and precision hunter offerings and depending on when they were made, they vary and solid 90 to 100 fps between boxes. That can make a big difference at extended ranges.

@Mauser3000, the Accubonds are factory loaded by Nosler. I don’t hand load so I have to sort through various factory loads until I get what my rifles like.

I understand. I found great accuracy with the Hornady outfitter ammo in my rifle. From 100 to 1000 yards. Mountain goat shouldn’t be a problem.

Pendleton has 4 options for you and they are a sponsor as well.

I used the 175 Grain ELD-X from Pendleton Ammunition with my 7mm PRC 2 weeks ago on an Aoudad sheep hunt and the performed very well. 1 was at 360 yards and the other was at 280 yards. Both 1 shot kills.
Also they had a steel Gong Shooting range out to a 1000 yards and both my wife and I were able to hit the 1000 yard gong with this Ammo.

I have a 7prc as well. I found some Norma bondstrike factory ammo that I bought just to get brass for reloading. It shot extremely well in my rifle. I would recommend bondstrikes, they are similar to accubonds in that it’s a Bonded bullet, tipped, etc. I worked up some reloads with normal Tipstrike bullets. Long story, they may work great on small stuff like white tail deer, but they do NOT work well on black bears of largish size. Also I use long range accubonds (.308/190 grain) bullets in my 300 win mag. I have killed a lot of deer, and two black bears with them. The long range accubonds are way more explosive than regular accubonds. They have killed everything I’ve ever shot with them, but I have also recovered several in medium to small size bears. At longer distances I am sure they hold up better, but under 300 they will definitely expand quickly. I would recommend the regular accubonds over the long range accubonds any day. I think a lot of comes down to what you want the bullet to get thru. I want them to expansion but deep penetration. If I hit a shoulder I want it busted and the bullet to get into vitals and beyond. The long range accubonds did this but I recover them a lot still in animal. I have yet to recover regular accubonds except in large animals in Africa. Tip strikes? Well I just pulled the rest of those last night, trying something else in case I run across another 400# bear. I still regret not carrying my 9.3x62 or grabbing the bondstrike ammo that day.

Where did you aoudad hunt? Is a report forthcoming? I just booked a hunt for next year.

I have been looking for some higher than 180gr ammo myself. I want to have time to test it out before I go to Africa in 2027. I have looked at Pendelton since they are a sponsor here, but they don't have anything heavier.

I found some 190 Hornady A tip and 195 Berger EOL on Copper Creek Cartridges, but I have not ordered any yet.

I have used Copper Creek in the past, all good stuff.

If your rifle is setup for it, that 195gr EOL would be a long distance medicine.
