Allure of the Ruger No1

2 different Boddington African sets on GB. One B all 5, only 3 on the other!

Well, my Ruger N°1 in 270WIN is with the gunsmith, to "Anglicize" it a bit. When the results are in, I'll make sure to post a couple of pictures.

Bedding the barrel, shortening the fore-end, slimming down the buttstock, a better trigger potentially and then whatever he can come up with. This will make a very fine first rifle for my daughters when they grow up. (and in the mean time I'll be able to enjoy it too :) )

A Jard trigger is hard to beat on a No 1!

Question in reference to the aforementioned Jard trigger. More suited for a varmint style or is it suitable for any and all? Addressing eye relief I’ve gotten along well with either a single offset, occasionally needed double offset. Do wish Ruger would recognize that 30mm optics need the offset love as well!

I have a Jard on my .275. I am addicted to fine triggers. It is set a little light for some. They can be ordered
With different pull weight ranges.

Really want a No 1 in 9.3x57 because I have so much brass, dies, etc. Anyone out there know if the 9.3x62 or the 9.3x74R comes with a tropical weight barrel or standard weight?

I have one of the 9.3x74r, and honestly found the gun was a bit light for the caliber, I looked around and could not find any in a heavier barrel. There have been tons of different variations made of the ruger no.1, but to my knowledge none of the 9.3s were ever done in the tropical weight barrel. Even the 450/400's did not get the Tropic barrel (except for a small limited run of about 100).

Just picked up a Ruger No.1 in 7x57 in poor condition - any thoughts on calibre changes ?

You can’t find a better calibre for a No .

You might try 275 Rigby or 7mm Mauser. :)
Was toying with 318WR - as I don't believe it was ever offered in that calibre ! But will see it is three months before it gets to me - just trying to get ahead of the curve and get a barrel ordered etc

The Ruger #1 is a sweet rifle. For the few of us who like using a sjngle shost on Cape buffalo we would sure appreciate a Ruger #1 in 500 NE. I would like it with a bit longer/heavier barrel. If they did that then I would never complain about anything again! Please Ruger hear my prayers.;)

my Ruger No1 in .280 Rem with some very fine upgrades from the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.
Still works very well 45 years later

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
