Any Other Interests???

Nothing major but a few things. The latest being testing out a new woodburner by doing quick doodle on a scrap piece of wood after staring at my bear mount. I like it so far.

Perhaps not the right place, my apologies? However does anyone take up other interests, collections, the arts, hobbies etc,...

Photos speak volumes. 20 yrs practicing music, etc. .. Used to collect Chainsaws. Sold them all, except for one. Helped finance a double.View attachment 396472View attachment 396473
Is that a 600 or 800 series? Quite a saw. I still do my own firewood because I enjoy it. I use a sthil 390 with a 25” bar. That saw is great to use, but nothing like your monster!

Marathon running. Keeps me in shape for hunting.
Downhill and Cross country skiing: an excuse to be outside in the winter and enjoy it. (And it is exploring, kinda like hunting.)
Archery. Oh, I guess that is hunting.
Road bike riding: exploring and exercising again!
Beekeeping: it is basically playing with fire in a mini form. The smell of a beehive is fantastic. I give away 90% of the honey.
Travel: exploring again.
Knife sharpening: a calming task with a nice benefit.
I’m slowly planting a fruit tree orchard. 50+ trees thus far. The bees pollinate them. We will eat the fruit, the deer eat the rest. Then we eat the deer.

My number one summer activity is BBQ, my wife and I run a part time catering/food truck business, hence my avatar. This is the smoker we run most of the time, we do events anywhere from a few to 400 plates with the help of my adult kids and their spouses/significant others.

This is actually set up while I am enjoying my second favorite thing to do in the summers, I really enjoy trapshooting. I generally shoot in the range of 8,000 targets a year. Can't say that I am great, but will generally hold my own.

I also tinker in woodworking and make some knife handles. Make some from some odd types of wood. This is one I made from a piece of sage brush

It is all just for fun, and while the bbq thing does make some money and kinda turns into a job once in a while it is much more enjoyable than my typical 8-5 job.

I consider myself very fortunate that my work has always been a passion. I was born and raised a farmer. Managed to figure out how to be serious and successful and share that with enough young and other talented people that I can get away to hunt and enjoy other passions now during the second half of life.

I also can now piddle around farming for more fun growing several food plots. Which of course falls right back into hunting.

I also enjoy fishing and motorsports. And more recently, camping and traveling. Got a Polaris General i enjoy ripping around in and getting dust on smiles. And being based in Minnesota, gotta get out snowmobiling on occasion;)

And although my back can't take it as much anymore, I like to cut my own firewood, just for the fireplace:)

Definitely going to keep farming seriously, but also continue to mentor and be able to enjoy the other benefits of success.

I like to build a saddle every now and again. View attachment 396557Sometimes I like to whip up some other odds and ends.View attachment 396564View attachment 396589I also like to restore and sharpen one and two man crosscut saws.
Beautiful work @CM McKenzie Brings back some cool memories for me.. My Maternal Grandfather made a whole retirement career of leather working making harneses, saddles, and about anything else.. God rest his soul, he did what he enjoyed and I'm convinced it added a good 10 years to his life;)

Wow! After seeing what all you guys do besides hunting, I feel like a lazy bum.
Apart from big game hunting, I enjoy sporting clays and I play golf two or three times a week.
I used to collect contemporary art, but my house is full and no more wall space or money for nice artwork.

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
