Any South Africans Considering Relocating to US

[Quest#1]

I highly doubt South Africans would enjoy six solid months of winter, but good Lord we could use their kind in Vermont as farmers, outdoorsmen, and gun lovers.

I could point the way to some available old dairy farms if any were interested.

And if any were keen to take a look around, they’d be welcome to visit our farm.

Especially this winter! We could definitely use some hard working ppl in this state to help is pay for all the non working….

There was an old non pc Afrikaans saying which roughly translated would be: rather a king in a land of peasants than a peasant in a land of kings.

I believe the quality of life that most farmers enjoy in SA far exceeds what they would have in the US. The average US citizen is much wealthier than the average South African. But the average farmer in SA is much wealthier than their average countrymen and I believe much wealthier here than they would be in the US, relatively speaking.

I am sure there will be some who will take the opportunity on offer but I do not believe the mass exodus that a few have predicted on this side will take place.

In spite of our many challenges SA is still a very good place to live.

Trump has just announced a fast track to citizenship for RSA farmers! I don't know if I like this. We don't want RSA to become Zim. We need good people over there for the stability of the country. We all love Africa and want to see it get better!
That said I welcome anyone that loves hunting to the US!

Agreed. The capital required to start a real farming operation in the US would be insurmountable for most. I would imagine. Also, brain drains are no good for a country. At least while there’s still hope for change. Losing one of the most industrious demographics is a huge negative

He had a good life in RSA, but was worried about the future for his children.

There are a lot in the Scottish Borders as well. Just with people we deal with, the manager of the local farm supplies place, two self employed foresters / farm workers, the pharmacist, an estate agent (realtor) a teacher in the local school and two agricultural valuers are all from Zimbabwe or South Africa (mainly Natal midlands) Most had a crime incident that pushed them to go but all miss home. I find it very sad. Their children will grow up Scottish and loose their parents’ culture.

They all have a family link to this area, but often 200 years ago.

As a born and bred Texan, I have many South African friends and several that now hold their US citizenship. I would welcome all my SA brothers into the US along with their friends and family. What a great bunch of hard working and honest folks that love the outdoors in my opinion.

Our church in Australia was almost 100% EX-SAF'ers.

I have met a few in America, but not heaps. There are actually quite a few here in Germany.

there are a lot of SA family docs in Canada, in some areas 20-30 % of all GPs ( rural SK, ALTA, BC),so many actually, that Canada can't advertise jobs in SA anymore as it is considered a country in need.

We have a few sour African friends here in Australia but they weren't farmers, also a few non farming friend from Zimbabwe.
All absolutely beautiful people that I am happy to call friends.

Just because you move country doesn't always mean you loose your culture. You can still maintain your cultural heritage and also the adopt the new culture of your country.
In Australia we have many cultures and cultural festivals that allow people to both celebrate their culture and give people a chance to understand that culture. The are great times.
Even schools have cultural programs so the kids can understand and embrace other cultures.
One school in my area even has a day where children from ALL cultures being food to school to share with fellow students. It's a great idea to promote understanding of people from different places.
Problem is some of these cultures being their problems and crimes as well. It is only a small minority but it can tarnish a while culture unfortunately.
Culture is passed from generation to generation and as parents it is our responsibility to keep that culture alive as well as embracing the culture of our new country.
Enough ramblings about culture tho.
Australia at the moment is trying to drastically reduce immigration. We just haven't got the resources to maintain it.

If there is a purge of the white farmers, etc. I hope they go scorched earth when they leave, and nobody gives SA anything but grief afterwards!! Was hoping Trump would help defend them!!
