Anyone has taxidermy work done in South Africa?

Nice to hear you've found the silver lining.

Looking at your game room you have been on a bunch of hunts and have a very nice collection of trophies. This is only my second pay to play hunt and the only shoulder mount I got was the kudu. What would you have thought if your kudu-gemsbok mount would have come to you and both ears from the white hair on top out to the tips were flat as a board with no indentation? The heads that Nylstroom Taxidermy did at the lodge I was at were not done this way so why was I the luck one? I just thought I would get this great mount like on their web site. I would just like some ideas so I could look at it from the front. How to get the hair from sticking straight up, and sounds like the flat part I am stuck with.

I wouldn't have been very happy at all. But what I meant was at least you can look at it from a different angle (even if it was through someone else's mistake) and appreciate it's beauty, even if it is less then perfect. You may feel unlucky but you are a lot better off then several of my friends that recently had their capes shipped home from Namibia to find out that all 14 of them are ruined and can't be mounted. It looks like they must have been brined in a rusty barrel and all are stained beyond repair and nobody wants to accept responsibility. There's always a bright side but sometimes it's hard to see, I'm just glad that you can look at your kudu and enjoy it's better qualities.

Thanks sorry about your friends!

You may have some luck with the hair by working hair styling gel into it then applying a paper clamp, not a clip but one of those little black clamps, to hold the hair down in place for a week or so to try to train the hair into that position then brush the gel out with a toothbrush. If you don't get the results you want try it again and leave it longer. It probably will not lay right down but you should be able to get it better than it is anyway. You are stuck with the shape though short of a remount and that is iffy at best with an African "tanned" cape which are often not actually tanned at all.

I just got this picture from my taxidermist from my May 2013 hunt. The taxidermist is Hunters and Collectors in Port Elizabeth.

HI Warbird

Looked at your trophies on your photo page. looks like a great Nyala. I have been looking at them since I got back, didn't see any when I was there. I can't get your mount picture to open maybe put it on your picture page. here is a great great mount of a Nyala Nyala Wall Pedestal - Shoulder Mounts not at your taxidermist but they might do the same kind of thing.

Hello there. I’ve been wanting to introduce myself personally & chat with you about hunting Nilgai. Give me a call sometime…

Best,

+1 Great to deal with. I purchased custom rifle. No issues.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
