Bases/mounts for Musgrave Model 80 - Help!

I recently bought a Musgrave sporting rifle in .375 H&H. I can't be certain of the model but someone suggested it could be the Model 80, can anyone confirm?

I’m also trying to identify which type of bases/mounts will fit. Again, someone said it should take Winchester Model 70 bases. I’ve had a look online and the bases for the Model 70 seem to have both sets of holes for the front and rear bases 21.9mm apart. Where as mine are 21.9mm at the front and more like 8.7mm at the rear. Any suggestions?

I’d never heard of Musgrave before this post. Interesting history, and it looks like the reborn company is making nice rifles again.

Regarding the spacing of the scope base mounting holes, they may in fact be the same as the Winchester Model 70… the question is which version?

Or, you could have a one-off, local gunsmith “special”. In that case, or if you can’t find any bases with just the right factory spacing, Talley sells blank bases that can be machined by a gunsmith to fit your rifle, after which you could use their excellent, factory spec rings.

You might try bases for Winchester M70 Classic Super Express, or Safari Express.

Winchester modified their standard action for a longer bolt travel for the .375 H&H, .416 Remington, and .458 Winchester. Moving the bolt stop required new hole spacing for the rear bridge.

The rear hole spacing is .330 inches, which converts to 8.382 millimeters.
The front is .860 inches converts to 21.844 millimeters.
It just might work.

They are wonderful rifles.. I have used a musgrave 7x57 on a couple of hunts in South Africa... shoots straight, smooth action, well balanced, etc..etc..

I have emailed Musgrave, but does anyone know if the export to USA?

They will work with an importer however it’s up to individuals to set up the details. They’re basically building as purchased and to customer spec so it’s up to each buyer to go through the process.

@JackGB based on the action you have either the Model 80 or Model 90, the Model should be indicated on the left side of the action. You have a beautiful rifle there!

I have a Model 80 chambered in .30-06, fantastic rifle, this is my everyday, working rifle that clients also use and never had any problems, a real trustworthy, accurate gun!

See the picture attached how my scope is mounted, bases then the scope mounts. The holes at the rear are closer together than the front. My bases as in the picture is a 2 piece stud bases. The brand is either Lynx or Thor, can't remember which one.

See if you can see on the rifle which Model your Musgrave is then I can find out in SA exactly what bases you need for it

Can you post a picture of your bolts' extractor? See my picture attached, the Model 90 Magnum will have a short extractor and the Model 82 will have a long extractor that's almost double in length

@JackGB, I would definitely say you have the Model 90 Magnum.
I have a Model 80 and my extractor is almost twice as long as your extractor
