Best 375 H&H factory ammunition for thin skinned game?

I used the 300grain TSX at 2550fps and it killed everything (buffalo cow, warthog and kudu) with a single shot each. If I were just after smaller PG I would use the 250g TTSX.

Other than needing solids for the really small animals, is there any expanding .375 H&H ammunition on the market that wouldn't work well on thin skinned game? The .375 works really well with any expanding bullet that I've tried. Reliability for hunting a wide range of quarry is one of the wonderful features of this cartridge.

Oh my...:A Popcorn:

I used Barnes TSX Vortex ammo, on everything from Warthog & Bushbuck on the smaller side all the way up to a cow buff and a lioness with great success. Didn't recovered a single bullet.

I used 260gr nosler partition Trophy Grade factory ammo on my first PG hunt... they did well on everything I shot with them (blesbok to waterbuck)..

These days I use 300 gr TSX exclusively in my 375... whether the quarry is impala or Cape Buffalo.. I know exactly how the bullet is going to fly and perform.. While I load my own, I have built my load to replicate the Barnex Vor-TX factory load (same projectile, same brass, same primer, shot at the same speed, etc..etc...)...

Thanks this is very helpful. I’ve been really stressing about finding the right bullet for Africa The Barnes Vor TX is about the only factory loads I can find for my 375 H&H. I’m planning a 2024 trip to Namibia and I’m looking forward to carrying the 375.

No wrong answers so far. 375 is "bang-flop" on NA game and Africa plains game with most bullets. Solids on the tinies. Tough bullets on the big plains game. All of the 375s I have owned are pretty darn accurate with most ammo.

Best of luck on your hunts.

There really isn’t anything to stress out about. Even the cheapest jacket soft points on the market will kill everything in North America and all African plains game. Just get whatever factory ammo that is available and shoots well in your rifle.

If that be the case I'll take corelokts. I love them. They always seem to shoot well out of every gun I own and have always performed well for me. It's just that i keep hearing others comment how they can't understand why people settle on "cheap" ammo for the trip of a lifetime, so I didn't want to be one of those guys.

I’m quite confident anything you use will work.

What are you going after?

I’d buy whatever you can now and practice!

Rule of thumb in my hunting/ shooting circles is when a new rifle shoots wonky , use some Remington cor-lok or federal blue/ classic to test group, and if those don’t work sell the gun!

270g & 300g 375 H & H federal blue box are unfortunately victims of marketing campaigns, I would think they would be perfect for everything in Namibia except elephant
wish I could get them in 375 ruger

I have used my 375 with Barnes 235 grain tsx for wild hogs in Alabama and it works great.

I would use it for anything from impala to eland.

I agree with S-3 Ranch above. I’ve used the standard Federal blue box 270 and 300 grain round nose soft point ammo for our local moose, elk, and bear with complete satisfaction. However I’ve also seen a Federal 300 gr. RNSP break up on the humerus bone of a properly shot buffalo, which resulted in a long, frustrating and scary tracking job for a few hours. So for thin skinned game, yes, but “ everything in Namibia” no. I’d exclude buffalo and giraffe too not just elephant.

I just took my 375 on a pg safari in the cape, I used 300 tsx on everything from springbok to kudu / sable and it worked perfectly. Was not overkill due to the controlled expansion, it’s actually ideal.

It will also work perfectly on buffalo. So, hard to beat really. Add 300gr Swift AF, and you will have similar results.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
