Also how do you like the Sabatti?

I’ll attempt to tread lightly in answering this question to avoid inciting another Sabatti debate. I purchased mine used and it is a cabela’s gun. It had the original regulation target and I inspected the bores to ensure there was no grinding. So far this seems to be one that shoots well. I definitely acknowledge there are ones out there that don’t. Action is solid and triggers not bad. If you have one that is properly regulated I think the real question comes down to longevity. There are some great posts in this forum that get into comparing the craftsmanship and design of the sabbati’s regulation wedge vs guns in the next tier like the Krieghoff. I would agree that this is the weak link and probably doesn’t have the strength of the better designs. That said, I haven’t experienced or seen indication of any problems yet. I purchased because I’ve always wanted to try a double and thought I could tinker with this and learn some things before deciding to invest in a next tier gun. Overall I’m happy and even though I now have the Krieghoff, I’m not looking to get rid of it.

About two weeks ago I sent the stock off to be refinished and get a new recoil pad. I’ll post some photos when I get it back.

Step 1: Find AH on the web and click the link.
Step 2: After reading a while sign up for a username because you have a question.
Step 3: Ask your question and receive an answer from one of the more knowledgeable and skilled enablers preying upon your low post count.
Step 4: Commence follow on research, start reading more indepth about ballistics and big game hunting while pricing ammunition of various calibers and shopping GB and LGS for deals.
Step 5: Narrow down your caliber based on what you could find at a good price and stock up on ammunition.
Step 6: Assemble all your ammunition and rifle in a big pile and roll around/attempt to swim in it.
Step 7: Head to the range and light off the first glorious round after which the rest of the day will be a blur because "Recoil!" and "Big BOOM!" and "I have to talk louder now because I have a big rifle, I chased all the AR shooters away, and I'm excited!" Not to mention a smile as wide as can be that just can't be wiped off your face.

Oh wait, you were talking about conquering the addiction weren't you...sorry can't help you there.

If the weather behaves itself next weekend then im going to have to drag out the 416 and 500... starting to go through withdrawals. I need to spend some time at the hand loading bench for the 416 as well.

I still NEED a 458 Lott and a 8 bore paradox gun. Sadly CZ no longer makes the 550, I really should have bought one in 458 Lott years ago.

Try a 577 NE, I found it to be much more enjoyable and MUCH more practical then the 600 NE. The 600 is just too heavy to shoot off hand let alone carry around in the bush. If the 600 is light enough to carry then its too light to shoot often. A 577 NE can weigh around 13-15 pounds and be comfortable to shoot and not too heavy to shoot free hand.

I draw the line at around 16 pounds, my arms are just too wimpy to carefully aim without the gun supported.

Finally after having it sat in a corner for ages have fitted the synthetic stock to my 500 Jeffery...put one of those dead mule things in it that joe @Red Leg kindly brought out for me in Aug...fits me better than the wood stock...which I have given to the only gun Smith in lusaka to trim down slightly as pistol grip area is fractionally too chunky for me...hoping its not going to be buggered ..fingers crossed...

Hi my name is Derek. I have the same affliction. it began years ago with a ruger #1 in 375h&h. it has since spread to a 416 rem mag, and even morphed into a double rifle affliction, with a 9.3x74r and a 450 nitro express. help!

Recoils like a 30-06 now...

Yeah not far off...think we weighed it with the different stocks..and from memory wood was bout 10.5lbs...and that synthetic 9.5lbs or so...but as you agreed we were both pleasantly surprised at how manageable it is...my favourite at moment...shame ammo is kind of expensive or would be shooting shit out of all sorts of things

I now shoot an 85 caliber rifle every weekend! My addiction has gone into it's finals stages... I'm past helping and only limited by my physical ability to absorb recoil.
