Big Bore Addiction Group

Maybe Im just being silly but I always feel Im cheapening the cartridge with a short barrel like my 300wby has a 24" and it bothers the hell out of me but whats a guy gunna do.

My M70 .264 is 26 inch, M70 .458 Win Mag is 22 inch. The rest are 24 inch from 30-06 to .416 Rigby.

long range small bores are a completely different story, I was just referring to large bore guns. (this thread is strictly for the big stuff)

It was just an example there is significant velocity lose in big bores as well not quite the same but lets take my 500S&W for instance it looses a little over 100fps per inch of barrel lost on average I would prefer not to sacrifice this performance

Guys this rifle is straight from the factory. The box had not been opened until it arrived at the gun store so they could check the serial number. Now I have to go find a deal on some ammo. This rifle is 458 Lott but I'm told it will also shoot 458 magnum loads as well. Range report when it warms up a bit.

Because the Lott headspaces on the belt the 458 will work fine foe a while. BUT it also can erode the throat. I'd use the LOTT brass all you can.

I will agree that the fps lose is much less but 100fps can affect a 500gr bullet allot as far as the muzzle energy is concerned.

Matt, Just to tickle your taste buds a bit. I just got the word that the ORIGIONAL Rigby Rising bite DR (450 NE IIRC) may very well be at this shoot, (for viewing pleasures only I'm sure) as well as the first one built by the latest reincarnation of Rigby in England . This newest first one was reverse engineered from the original and is in 500 NE! There may also be the #2 newly built Rigby, this one in 416. (if everything goes well with the importing)

mike they finished the first reincarnation of the rising bite quickly, as i am pretty sure it was still being worked on at sci when marc showed it to me. they did have a new .416 there with 22inch barrel and a stunning piece of wood that was most tempting, especially when marc started talking prices to me.........., but as i have bought that .404 i had to resist...........:(

IF .. the stars come into alignment by the time of our shoot, I should be able to post some pictures of these and many more afterwards.
Jerome might not like the band width/space used used though. ;)

I may be developing a problem. In the past year or two I have purchased a .375 H&H, a .416 Rem Mag, a .404 Jeffery, and, yesterday, a .458 Lott.

But that is as big a caliber as I'm going. And I can stop any time I want. I swear.

welcome Gsxrmike, i believe you can stop at any time you like. its just like me, i don't "need" big bores i just want them really REALLY badly! :E Crazy:

it sounds like your ready for something that starts with a .5xx". i suggest you start looking into a double chambered in 500 NE 3" or perhaps a AHR in 505 Gibbs or 500 Jeffery.

you got the date sorted for the star alignment ? :D

I'll downsize the images also. 1366X768 is my medium that usually works fine. But I have no idea how many there'll be at this point. I'll contact you before posting if you want.

is there any kind of confirmed date for this shoot yet?

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
