Bighorn Sheep Skull & Display

@chuckwellington One of the nicest rams I've seen taken out of the FCW in a while. Congrats to you (and your helpers)...the logistics of that hunt is a challenge that you obviously enjoyed and met. Love that display. Now, you're ready for a second Idaho Bighorn in the Owyhees....FWB

Excellent work and congratulations on a great ram

Outstanding mount! Great job putting it together. That looks better to be than a lot of shoulder sheep mounts I have seen.

Fantastic accomplishment and great job with the skull/horns. Is that ram 9 yrs old?

Thanks. The outfitter aged him at 9 or 10 if I remember correctly. I think it’s in my notes. However, the biologist when I checked him in only gave him 6 years.

Based on what I know about sheep, I’m going with the outfitter on this one.

The Idaho Sheep Biologist is a great gardener. Loves his plants. Knows them very well. @chuckwellington Getting the California Bighorn tag in the Owyhees would probably be a disappointment to you after the great hunt you just had. Requires a 2 year wait, but, hey....go for it. As for having the "inside track" that would make my hunting buddies laugh. Until recently, I had put in 234 conseq applications for special hunts without ONE hit. The probability of this was less than 1 in 2 billion. So, no......do not even let me TOUCH your application...............FWB

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Great looking taxidermy and congrats on the hunt. They would be a bucket list hunt for a lot of people.

Beautiful ram but it would have been a shoulder mount for me (maybe lifesize)! I am pretending that you donated that cape to someone! Congrats!!!

The ram appears to be 8.5 years old. I would have to see it in person to be sure. I’ve aged a pile of them. Congrats on a great ram and epic hunt!

Very nice !!! Congrats

My only taxidermist critique (which you didn’t ask for ) is try turning the cedar post cut off 180 degrees if it isn’t cemented in yet. Leave the natural weathered end toward the viewers eye rather than the cut side. It’s very nice either way.

Thanks. Much appreciated. I considered that and you’re probably right. The other end is splintered and you can’t really see in the picture but the piece that the skull leans on is similarly splintered. Probably snapped under snow/ice/wind. So I put them next to each other. I may try to weather that cut end somehow.

Not usually one for dioramas/set pieces outside of a museum but you did a great job on that. Just enough of everything and not too much of anything. And glad you used a 30-06.
