Kahles Helia S are the same in all, except the "suit", as the discontinued Swarovski SLC. Great binoculars!!

Another to consider, the one I have now, is the Swarovski Habicht W GA 10x42. To me, the champion hunting binocular, made with military standards, to last forever. Even the rubber coat is of another kind of all other rubber coated binoculars.

That would be my choice.

I would recommend the Zeiss Victory HT’s. They are the best binoculars I have used at first light or dusk. But if low light is not an issue, don’t buy them.

Morning. I've got a pair of GPO (German Precision OPtics) pair, and they are great. I think GPO guys were once employed by Zeiss??

Hi SStomcat,

Sorry for the delay. No, the Habicht is not a heavy binocular for their size and magnification. I have had six Habichts 1 8x30 and 5 10x40 of various ages. And have had this one at the same time as a Zeiss Victory FL and HT 10x42 that were heavier. By the way, I would chose the FL over the HT because the veiling glare control of the former. The HT, being a perfect (to me) binocular in almost all their specifications, was very bad (at least my sample) looking with the sun at the front, not directly at the front of the objectives but even at an angle, like down and dusk situations: a milky glare made the view very unconfortable.
The Habicht is much better on this and optically is superb. And the build quality second to none!

I vote to go with NL. The EL model I had, had the “rolling ball effect”.

A good move. I have some Stiener Predator Binos and they are not in the same league for clarity, sharpness, brightness as the Swaro's I have looked through. It is a lot of years since I have looked through Zeiss binos so can not comment on their current bino's. Hower when I last used them-30 odd years ago they were a stand out binocular. These were 7X35 prism type from memory. In Stiner's favour they are hard to match for toughness.

Also should I need to crawl under dense foliage this becomes a handicap with it dangling from my neck. I like to carry my own things, so as is will be lugging my ~11 pound DB. Thinking about this I decided to go with a small Swaro pocket bino.

Also should I need to crawl under dense foliage this becomes a handicap with it dangling from my neck. I like to carry my own things, so as is will be lugging my ~11 pound DB. Thinking about this I decided to go with a small Swaro pocket bino.

Not a bad idea as if in bush you probably do not need 10 power bino's.

I use a harness and use it properly when in bush. In the more open terrain, I pull my arms out of the harness straps and use them as a standard bino strap, if that makes sense.

I have the old model of these and they are awesome. Perma-focus from 10 yards to infinity. So nice in low light to not have to refocus at different distances. Just set each individual eyepiece and they are then focused at all ranges. Incredible for spotting game in the early morning because everything is focused.

I am a bit odd as in the binoculars always Leica , scopes Zeiss and spotting scope Swarovski. Personally i would look at Leica - Geovid , Ultravid ,Noctivid . I sold my Ultravid HD and got the Geovids and still regret selling them as should have kept as a spare set.

On another forum a guy is selling his Leica Geovid 10x42 3200.com Range finder binoculars. Never used and in perfect condition for $1,750. Eurooptic have them at $1900 on sale down from $3099.

I understand more than you willing to spend but you will never buy another set of binoculars. I was in the same boat, did not want to spend the extra $700 for the geovids and i am glad i did . $700 is lot of money but your eyes will thank you and that rangefinder just makes it bit sweeter

I don’t think that’s odd at all. I have a friend that worked at several different optics companies. They said Leica has the best binoculars and Zeiss the best rifle scopes.

You might think about the under arm carry like most African PH’s use or one of the Rick Young Bino Harnessez. I believe that’s what @Philip Glass prefers.

For Africa I think a set of the 7x Binos is perfect. I use my 10x42 Swaros but have been tempted to get something a little smaller and lighter.

That is the exact reason why I decided to also get the Swarovski Companion CL in 8x30 and the Swarovski Harness for stalking.

Both worked great since I have them.

Zeiss terra, around 400 bucks. I have one, pretty happy with it. Of course their Victory series is a better option, gives you a sharper brighter picture, but it is like 8x the price.

Check these out....I don't like big binos ...they are pretty compact and light...and work very well...

ALso a Steiner fan. How ever a buddy of mine picked up a pair of the Sig 16x image stabilized Binos, the 16 power with the image stabilization is pretty dangerous cool.
