Blaser R8 - Why do African PH’s and Alaskan Bear Guides Choose Not To Use Blaser R8’s?

I have to disagree with you on that, I own a Dakota 76 416 Remington Magnum, a 470 double, and I'm planning my first cape buffalo hunt for June. I make well under $100,000 a year and I'm definitely not part of the 1% but if you want something bad enough you can make it happen!
I cant speak for the rest of the world, and understand that's partially what this thread is about, but I can definitely say financial irresponsibility is an epidemic in the USA and "if you want it bad enough" is absolutely spot on. Could go on for hours, but will leave it at that.

I'm sure an R8 is out of the budget of many new PHs, but you definitely dont need $10k to buy one and lots of PHs have guns that cost the same or more than an R8.

This is an old thread so I've probably already given my .02 but I'll do it again and bet that, as much as I love my R8, at least for DG PHs, the speed and redundancy of a double cant be beat. Nothing faster with 3 or 4 shots than an R8, but you're only likely to get 1-2 when things get real fast and close and nothing beats a double for that

Well if you're not capable of saving the money to buy the things you want without putting it on the credit card well that's on you! My trip is paid for because I saved my money and work overtime when I could.

Amen. You would think it would be common sense, especially with such vast opportunities in the US. But the stats on personal finance are glaringly opposite, and personal responsibility is disappearing like common sense.

As a generalization though, this is a group that does or desires strongly to take an expensive (but well worth it of course) trip across the world. That requires discipline and motivation, and likely tend to surround yourself with similar folks. You may not realize how sad the stats are until you actively look into it, I sure didnt. Which becomes more sad, and frustrating, when you experience people around the world that would make so much more of the opportunities presented to those wasting them.

I've done quite a bit of horse trading with R8s, and have been able to piece together some complete rifles at a fraction of the cost of buying new. So, like you said, you don't have to break the bank to get into an R8. It just takes some luck and patience.

26 pages.....op started this thread in 2021.....had 3 more posts here basically giving responders shit and dissappears......has not posted in 2 years.....go figure.....

Trouble maker! At this rate we can crack the 50 page mark!
BS comments like this will get us there. :D Beers:

The R8 is a push feed action and that is unacceptable. ;)

I helped keep it alive with my bag of shame post!
Have to be willing to take a ribbing every now and then...even it's from a know lover of the garbage CZ. :A Stirring:

@BeeMaa
I will keep it alive with my ribbing of Barbie.
Maybe you could start a group like AA to help R8 owner and those contemplating buying one.

I can see it now.

My name is ( insert name) and I own a Blazer R8. I feel so embarrassed by all the shit people hang on me even tho it's a good rifle. It's got that bad I'm now thinking of getting a BRUNO 602 so I can feel like a man again and not being known as a Barbie gun owner. I need help, what should I do because I really love Barbie.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

George Gibbs .470 yes, R8 any caliber no. I do not know of any DG PH that would prefer a R8 over his or her dbl.
