Hello everyone. In just a few days I leave for the Tuli Block in Botswana for my leopard hunt. If I am successful this will be the 5th of the Big Five taken with my 1910 WJ Jeffery & Co 475 No 2 Jeffery double rifle. I'm taking my 458 Mannlicher-Schonauer (I actually purchased it in South Africa and imported it to the U.S.) as my back up in case the 475 ammo gets lost with the airlines.
I won't have a professional videographer along on this trip but will do the best I can with my iPhone and GoPro/DJI cameras.
To begin this report I want to share with all of you how I keep track of all the paperwork involved in going to South Africa and Botswana with Firearms. I like to use the Portfolio you see in the photo. I like these so much I keep one in my offshore boat with all the required documents, and one in my F650 for all its documents.
I have purchased these at both Staples and Amazon. Here is the Amazon link:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086QNVXDB
I print out all my documents and put them in individual document protectors. Here is what is contained for this hunt:
1. My passport (which will go into a cargo pocket on my pants once I leave home)
2. Multiple copies of the CBP 4457 for my rifles (btw they have changed the form again-since last year)
3. My flight itinerary to/from JoBerg
4. My flight itinerary to/from Gaborone
5. Multiple scan copies of my passport
6. Multiple copies of proof of submission of South Africa's Traveller Declaration (now a requirement)
7. Multiple copies of my invitation to hunt in South Africa
8. Multiple copies of my completed and approved South Africa Firearms Import Permits
9. Multiple copies of my invitation to hunt in Botswana
10. Multiple copies of my approved Botswana Firearms Import Permits
11. Copy of my state Hunting License and application for the Botswana Firearms Import Permits
12. Copy of the instructions and itinerary from Gracy Travel
13. Copy of 15 CFR 740.14
14. Copy of hotel reservations in South Africa
15. Copy of IATA Passport, Visa, and Health Rules
16. Another copy of the complete Itinerary including emergency contact numbers
I've never needed 11 thru 16 in the past, but I print and take them regardless.
