Buffalo trophy lost in Africa-would you do this..........

the trophy of the buffalo pictured is lost somewhere in Africa (my wife is not unhappy about it :giggle:).
The great hunt back then is always on my mental hard disk; I have also taken enough photos. But-somehow I would like to have it at home and so the thought sometimes germinates in me to buy a similar trophy on E-bay so that it is “finally there”.
I don't know if anyone understands that.
There are a few sold there over the year from estates; cheap.
I really hunted for it and finally shot it in the Save, it just went over the wall somehow on the way to the taxidermist, so I'm not boasting about Münchhausen stories.
I'm not lying then,or,or only a little bit ??

What would be your opinion on this idea?
Heretical?

Foxi

That’s an excellent Old Bull, shot yourself a real Dagga Boy in the true sense, well done & that replacement is close, I hope you got it ?

Have a roe buck on the wall above my head as I type this - I did not hunt it - saw it for sale and had to have it a beautiful mount - I have culled several 100 roe over decades - never thought about getting one mounted until I saw this chap - So go for it I say !

I would not. I would look into having one of the photos printed on canvas - size dependent on your space. You could do it sepia toned to give a vintage look include the date and location

BTW. I’ve had a loss. My wife’s cat used my color phase black bear rug for a litter box. Unsalvageable. Another rug just never would have felt the same for me.
I have been known to say, "If God did not intend for Man to shoot cats He would not habe made them look like targets." ;-)

I dunno. If you like it, go for it. I have a few of my dad's animals in my trophy room. We hunted most of them together, and it brings back memories. Nobody else in the family wants them.

If possible, I'd probably opt for a reproduction over just buying one. If just having a trophy was the goal, there's plenty of them around from estate sales.

I suppose it won't be too far away that you can just do a nice 3D scan and have them replicated, down to remarkably good detail at home. The newer iPhones already have a LiDAR that can do rudimentary scans.

Like everything else in life, it it brings you joy, then absolutely do it. You made an excellent hunt and killed a fine animal. You can choose to honor the animal and the memory in any fashion that you choose.

Saw a good looking knife you posted a pic of with the watermelon. Can I ask the make? Looks like you hunted with Guav Johnson? We overlapped in the Save once. Would like to hunt with him one day..
