Buffalo

Nice one, Mike! What loading did you settle on?
Mike -

For the .404J I loaded 400 gr. Swift A Frames at 2250fps using 73 grains of N-150. This load was devastating on both buff and eland. loaded solids (which I did not use) to the same speed with 71 gr. of N-150.

For the 7mm RM I loaded 160 gr. Swift A Frames at 2950fps using Norma MRP. Had a number of nearly instant kills on zebra, roan, impala and reed buck. Several others needed two shots.

2 buff (spent most of the last week looking for a bigger buff to make three)
2 zebra
1 impala
1reedbuck
1 eland
1 hartebeest

Not a huge bag, but good animals and I turned down a number of shots, didn't shoot warthogs, hyenas, duiker, etc. Also blew a couple shots.

Jeez, lads ! Don’t you have anything better to do in a brothel ?
Aside from the usual diversions, the food and bar are good.

Sounds a grear trip, Mike! Interestingly I have settled on 71gr N150 for Hornady DGS solids (Not sure on velocity) and am trying 73gr with some bonded bullets I have.

Scrummy

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Somehow managed to leave out the roan I got...

Missed this the first time around. Great hunt. I really do need to use my .404 on a buffalo.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
