Cape Buffalo in SA or Tanzania? The better hunt.

I would also suggest looking at Zimbabwe. Like mentioned it will probably fall between RSA and Tanzania in price. Hunted in Matesi 2 this year and it is wild, no fences, no villages, plenty of animals and I had a great time. After saying all of that, I do plan to hunt buffalo in Tanzania at some point as well. Good luck on whatever hunt you decide on.

I’m Looking to add a Dugger Boy or two to my trophy room and I’d like to hear from Hunters and PH alike on where would make for the best hunt. South Africa or Tanzania?
Also the a filming crew for each that want break the bank!
Booking for 2027
Many Thanks.

Don't you think your question is ridiculous ?

In Mozambique (Niassa) go to a waterhole and take up the track most likely. We only saw one Dagga boy while driving for 10 day hunt. Found a good track on day 4 -which was actually the day I decided I would hunt one. 5 hour track job -I took shot.
Tanzania (Selous) you will more than likely spot the Buffalo from truck and take up track. My two buffalo we walked into a pan (swamp area) from some distance (300 yds) from where we parked. Buff happened to be there and I shot them - one from a group of 5 and the other one from a pair. We saw numerous buff from the truck (10 day hunt) after I shot mine on days 1 and 3. Lucky I would say.
Zim hunt was also tracking. Shot 2 both by tracking. One from water hole (4 hour track job) and one when they ran across road. We set a leopard bait and then drove back and took up the track. Shot it maybe after an hour of tracking.
Which were my favorite hunts - the two where we picked up the tracks from the waterhole. Africa at its best!!!
Where would I go if I just wanted to shoot multiple buff? Selous.

If breaking the bank is a concern, I think a film crew is the least of your worries..

The hunt itself in Tanzania is going to be significantly more expensive than a buff hunt in South Africa..

If a Tanzania buff hunt is within your price range, then any difference in cost on a quality film crew really wont be enough when considered against the cost of the entire hunt..

Given your two choices, I’d choose Tanzania without hesitation if money was no concern. However, I think Zimbabwe is the best combination of price and experience in a wild area. It has some very experienced PHs and is a true tracking hunt.

A wild area with D&Y or Mokore or CMS in Zimbabwe is a perfect Buffalo hunt for me.

How’s Tanzania for the nonhunter? My spouse really didn’t like South Africa. She felt like she was cooped up.
Take her to Zanzibar for a several days. Stay at a nice beach front resort, visit the many sights. Then take her with you hunting just be sure she has a full big suit.

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe

Hi Walden. Good morning from England, Chris here (The Englishman!) from Croatia. Firstly it was a pleasure to meet you and Michelle - a fellow Sanderson! I have finally joined AH as I enjoy it very much. Glad you enjoyed the hunt and your write up which I read on AR was very good indeed. I am sending on WhatsApp pics from Bojan of some of the animals hunted recently. Take care and best regards. CS.
