Currently available way to get a 4 round magazine Winchester 70 375 H&H

Well, I misstated the obvious: If we are talking about Oberndorf bottom metal, then I assumed (we know how that goes), that a reader would understand the mechanism, with the hinged floorplate that opens and swings down.

The point is Pre-64 use an integral magazine box, properly dimensioned for the cartridge(s), and the feed rails of the action correspondently dimensioned for proper feeding (a la M98).
Post 1994 Classics use a separate magazine box, that dimensions determine the feeding for the cartridge(s).

Interesting about the NECG Magnum follower and trimming to work with .404 Jeffery.
I bought one for an Interarms Whitworth .375 H&H, that was not feeding properly. That and a new magazine spring, problem solved.
I tried several places to find a follower spring that was not tapered at the end like military Mausers. No luck. NECG used to sell magnum springs but no longer when I needed one. I seem to recall Hoosier or Midway also listed them but out of stock. My follower from NECG would have been a good fit for magnum Mauser action but lengthwise a tight fit in my standard action build for 404. The very slight trimming to follower side tab(s) was mostly to fix occasional hangup where mag box meets receiver. Mostly, as I recall, it involved beveling the square edges of tabs.

I have the Sunnyhill extended bottom metal on my 'Classic' M70 .375 H&H rifle. It holds 4 down and works just fine. I had a custom stock made so that it fit properly. It is designed to use the standard magazine that came with the rifle.

Here is a photo prior to final stock finishing...

I have read about the Duane Weibe XRM magazine box that was available for the Winchester 70 in 375 H&H. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be available anymore. Is there anyway that is currently available to increase the magazine capacity? I read something about changing the magazine spring to one without a hump using Winchester P/N U356420930 Magazine Spring L/A; does that work? It really seems a shame that the XRM stopped being available.
Interestingly, my gramps 1965 produced Winchester 70 375 h&h, the first of the push feeds, (completely stock as far as I can tell, with no drop box mag) holds 5 rounds below a shut bolt in the magazine and cycles well. Idk what they did to accomplish this in a flush magazine. I was surprised to learn this the first time I fully loaded it.

My Pre-64 Winchester 375 H&H has a Sunny Hill and it’s holds five, almost six, in the magazine.
So with one in the chamber a full six rounds of 375 H&H is a lot of hate and discontent to throw down range!

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
