A few years ago I bought a CZ 550 .375 H&H from @BeeMaa that Wayne at AHR did an upgrade #2 on for @BeeMaa before he sold it to me. Now as to why @BeeMaa decided to sell this rifle is beyond me! I think it had something to do with buying a Blaser R8 or some other foolishness. Lol. A few members here on AH tried in vain to convince him not to sell it but he went forward with the sale, to my great delight.

Just to rub it in a bit as a joke on my friend @BeeMaa I thought I would post a couple pictures of targets showing how well it shoots with the two loads I’m using. I don’t even have to adjust the sights/scope to switch between the loads! I’m thinking @BeeMaa might want to buy it back for double the money, especially now that CZ has discontinued the 550?

This is awesome! Seeing a rifle formerly owned by me that's making others happy. And I was completely honest with my claims about the potential accuracy of the rifle. That rifle/scope combo is a rugged unit.

When I sold it, @Scott CWO told me it was to be a client rifle but now after doing load development it looks like it may be reassigned as the Guide rifle. Either way, the user will have no excuses for a miss.

Here is a picture of it shortly after taking my first African animal, a Blue Wildebeest.

Very happy to see you enjoying it and I have no regrets at all. Sharing a few pictures of it with game it's taken since you took possession would be awesome as well. Cheers and good luck.

Yes, it’s been a great rifle! I changed out the scope to a V6 2-12x with illuminated dot and removed the mercury recoil reducer in the stock but that’s all I’ve done. It’s perfectly suited for Alaska since it was coated by Wayne and has the composite stock. It’s been carried by my Packer in case it’s needed during the last two spring brown bear seasons when I had a bow hunter and a handgun hunter. In the spring of 2024, my first brown bear client is a 22 year-old young woman and she will use it to kill her bear. I will post a picture after the hunt.

My AHR modified CZ 375 H&H will be the very last rifle pried from my cold, dead hands. The matching 300 Win Mag (AHR) and 458 Lott (Matrix) would be second and third to last.....

Yes, I also have a CZ 550 .458 Lott with AHR upgrade #2 by Wayne and it’s very accurate and smooth. It’s my stopper rifle when guiding and took my Botswana elephant at 25 yards and Mozambique buffalo at 10 yards with it as well. Doubt I will ever sell it.

I was lucky. I got Wayne to do his CZ #1 Upgrade for me when he first took over from Ed Plummer. The #1 upgrade included: single stage match trigger (which I love), 3 Position M70 type safety and straighten and fill the bolt. It cost me $500 plus shipping back and forth. Well worth twice the money even then. I bought the rifle from the CZ Custom Shop new, so it already had a barrel band and pretty stock.

Hey @BeeMaa the AHR CZ550 375 H&H rifle I bought from you did a great job a couple weeks ago on the AK Peninsula. My 22 year-old client, Mallory, used it to take a beautiful 9’9” squared brown bear. She anchored the bear at 149 yards on the first shot but I had her shoot it a couple more times for insurance. The bullet was a 270 grain Barnes.

My next client, Dennis, took a great 10’ squared bear. He used his Christensen Arms 375 H&H. He hit his bear in the shoulder at 190 yards with a Hornady 300 grain bullet and I saw the bear roll downhill into some very thick devils club brush. We waited about 20 minutes and then we climbed around and I approached from above. It was so thick, I couldn’t see very far. The bear got up and came for me at 20 yards and I put him down with one quick shot. Very intense! Upon investigation, the client’s shot broke the bear’s left shoulder but got just one lung!? Dennis is a heart/lung surgeon and the bear will be full-body mounted in his office in Texas.

We got these bears near the base of the Veniaminof Volcano that you can see behind Dennis in the paw picture. We rolled Dennis’s bear out of the brush downhill for good pictures.

@Scott CWO - So happy to see a former rifle of mine making memories. Thank you so much for sharing the pictures and congratulations to both of the hunters. Glad it all worked out for the best.

Good stuff! Wayne’s synthetic stocks are awesome. I wish they were still available!
That stock is the Bell & Carlson that came with the rifle originally. I had Wayne remove the front sling swivel and fill the hole in addition to adding the sling swivel to the barrel.

Great stories and history.

Am trying to decide what the Doc is wearing ie is that waist waders or hip boots of some canvas type material?
Thanks

Looks like waist high breathable waders. I used them extensively when I ran a boat on the coast. The other common footgear are Alaska tennis shoes (ankle fit hip waders).

It’s a bugger trying to clean bear grease out of breathable waders.

Those are waist high breathable waders in that pic. Bear is five miles up a creek from the coast. I find them easier to hike in than hip waders.

I ask all my brown bear hunters to wear breathable stocking foot waders, either chest or waist high. I like to be able to bomb across the rivers at almost any spot when stalking a bear. Hip boots are too short for that and uncomfortable.

Stocking foot waders with good wading boots (I use Simms with cable cranks instead of shoe laces) are very comfortable and make for the best rain gear - dry and it feels like sitting around in pajamas while glassing in the rain. I wear and recommend a Helly Hansen Impertech vinyl rain jacket. I only wear the jacket if it’s raining as they don’t breathe much but when it’s raining most of a day, regular rain gear can get saturated and “soaked up” when vinyl will not.

I also bring my regular Kuiu rain gear (pants, jacket and gaiters) and Meindl 11” boots for backup but don’t wear them much.

The breathable chest or waist waders get a bit warm when hiking but we glass a lot more than hike so as not to stink up the valley.

I camp in strategic spots that are short distances from glassing knobs. The last thing you want to do is hike around everywhere like you’re deer hunting or bird hunting and deposit scent everywhere. Bears will cross your path/scent trail and then leave the valley. If it’s a heavier rain day, I might hike to a further glassing spot because the rain will wash away our scent more quickly. I’m pretty extreme with scent control and we urinate and #2 in the river or a trash compactor bag and tie it shut each time and fly it out. It might seem extreme but I think my record of 50% harvest of 10’+ bears and the other 50% being 9.5’+ speaks for itself.

I will skin two or three bears with waders and then I just get a new set. You are correct!

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
