Here is my Dilemma... I have a Sauer 404 300 win mag but I had to send it back to Blaser because of a barrel problem. They received it last week and told me it would be 8 weeks till they could get to it.
Well here is the problem...I am going to Victoria Island BC for black Bear then in June heading back to Namibia for a 2 week safari.
I felt it was dumb to buy another 300 win mag barrel because I feel Blaser is going to send me a new barrel . I got a wink from them telling me it may be 8 weeks till they get a new shipment of barrels from Germany. I found a use Dakota LH 338 that was taken to Africa once and he said maybe shot 100 total rounds through it..The owner gave me 6 boxes of Hornady Heavy Mag 225 grain factory ammo. I have always like Barnes VOR -TX but seems no one has any in 338 Caliber at 210 gr or 225 gr.
My question to all my brilliant MENTORS on AH any recommendations on another factory ammunition which you feel would work g\GREAT on a
Dakota 76 338?

I bought a couple boxes of 225gr TSX 338 win mag from Buffalo Bore recently as well for back up. You can call Hendershots and get them to load up the 205gr Hammers or CEB Raptors 200 or 225 gr. Both projectiles are in stock and they could likely turn around in a few weeks.

I called Buffalo Bore and ordered 5 boxes of 225gr TSX 338. I was given 6 boxes of Hornady 225gr ammo from the gentleman I purchased my Dakota 338. I will test both bullets and see which works best. I have a feeling the Barnes TSX will do better than the Hornady.

I have a buddy that used the Buffalo Bore load a couple of years ago on a grizzly. Per his report, it floored the bear. He was well pleased with the 338 Winchester and that load.

I have quite a bit of Hendershots (250 & 275 Swift A Frames), Swift (225 Swift Aframes) and Hornady factory 338 WM ammo, plus a lot of hand loads with 225 Swift A Frames. I used my hand loads on my Alaskan moose last fall.

If the Barnes TSX and Hornady don't shoot well enough for you, you can try some of my stuff. I occasionally go to Houston, so we can work something out.

I always enjoy shooting different ammo to see what best performs. I would be interested in trading a box of Hornady factory 338 225 gr for a box of 225 Swift Frames to see how they match up.
Next time in Houston lets get together and do some horse trading.
