Dangerous Game on offer for 2011

I have the following PAC (Problem Animal Control) hunts available for early in 2011:

1.) PAC Elephant Bull / Permit included / Client keeps trophy / Limpopo Province South Africa R80, 000 (ZAR)

2.) PAC Lion Male and Female / Limpopo Province South Africa / R38, 000 & R28, 000 (ZAR) respectively.

3.) Hippo Bull / with Cites Permit / R42, 000 (ZAR)

what is the deadline for this elephant hunt? how long is the hunt (planned)? and any hints on the tusks sizes?
Regarding the lions, same questions.Are the PAC from game reserve? and where?

This certainly is an inexpensive way for someone to get a couple of the big five. I was always underthe impression that when you do a PAC hunt the hunter was not allowed to keep the trophy. Are there different types of PAC hunts? I also did not know RSA had PAC hunts available for Lion. In the hunt you have listed above for lion, does the hunter get to keep that animal also like the elephant hunt?

This sounds like it may be a great deal Tom, maybe you should change you trip to earlier and longer so you can take advantage of these. I wish I was going with ya. Did you ask if you could use your bow?

PAC hunts are photography hunt...you kill the animal, take a picture and then you will never see it again. I would be careful of participating in any PAC hunt. For me, I'm staying away from them. There are a lot of problems with those hunts if you get involved with the wrong outfitter. Just my 2 cents!

PAC hunts in South Africa is real and if there is a Cites permit available for the elephant as example you will be able to take your trophy home but beware the PAC lions that sticks around for too long then it can't really be a PAC.

We have quite a few wealthy South Africans that take care of most of the real PAC deals since they can do the hunt as soon as the permit is available. Then again you get a game ranch owner who has a problem with a certain buffalo bull for example and he will sell it as a PAC to get rid of it quicker instead of shooting it himself and loosing all that money.

So what it comes down to is to find out very bit of information on the specific hunt and get a trustworthy outfitter with a good reputation.

This elephant bull was shot as a PAC not because it raided fields, killed people or damaged property but because he was very aggressive and the owner decided to get rid of it before something would happen. We did the hunt late last year with a South African and the hunter kept the tusks and got his permit.

This was also a PAC buffalo on a game ranch shot by a South African we did this hunt June last year. He was breaking fences and chasing away game from water holes.

If I'm not mistaken the same deal applies to Namibia as well if there is still a open permit for the PAC animal you may buy the permit and take your trophy home but not in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and not sure of Botswana and Zambia.

YES the general rule with PAC hunts is that the hunter only takes a PHOTOGRAPH, yet as specifically mentioned above, the hunter may take the trophies of these animals as there has been a prior arrangement made with Nature Conservation. Hi JP,

The PAC hunts need to be concluded as soon as possible, they will take place in Limpopo and and no fixed number of days have been allocated to the hunt.

As to my knowledge - PAC hunt for South Africans yes; illegal for foreigners. Photo only, no export of trophy.

Sorry Patrick but you are wrong, if there is a permit available anyone is allowed to hunt that animal it just depends if it is a CITES animal and CITES permit available to export the trophy. Or unless the permit is allocated to a specific person with his name. Obviously they will need the land owners permission first.

We have no law in South Africa that excluded foreigners from hunting PAC animals as long as they are guided by a registered professional hunter who has a dangerous game license.

This was a PAC hippo and the hippo trophy is safe and sound with my client in Sweden.

After reading Fredrik's posts, I would say he is correct. The one thing I'd make darn sure of is the CITES permit and paperwork. And I'm not referring to any one on this website specifically. PAC hunts can be a great opportunity if you are in Africa already hunting and the opportunity arises to hunt a magnificiant animal at a lower price....but the paperwork has to be good. Don't be fooled into thinking the paperwork wil fix itself after you are done with the hunt~

Right I read all the comments and the legality of this and if you have a Cites permit you may...., foreign clients...bla, bla... warra warra fish paste.... and nobody actually addressed the hogwash... the issue of PAC animal... just to make sure PAC still stands for Problem Animal Control... right if this is advertised and who knows how long this ad will stand this so called PAC animal is still "making trouble/being a problem" is it then really a problem animal???

You bring up a good point theov! I didn't make the rules for sure (lol). Sometimes, PAC hunts seem to me like a huge opportunity to make money out of nothing. But they are out there. I know a bunch of people that have done them....and just took pictures....but for me...I'll stay away. I'd rather spend my money supporting wildlife conservation....and I don't think PAC hunts do that for me.

Sorry if I'm stepping on anyone's foot....I just think the rules need to be looked over again.

Like I said it depends on how you look at it you have to be really lucky to be in the country and pick up a true PAC most PAC animals are taken by local hunters and then some are called PAC just because a owner wants to get rid of it. But no PAC in South Africa is not the same as in Zimbabwe, Botswana and Mozambique.

Yes, sometimes the convenient "PAC" Elephant's meat in Zim is used for "Government Meetings" and some distributed to the locals... lets call it goodwill...

Absolutely, the rules need to be looked at again and amended... tie a knot in the loop hole... that is what was discovered.. and someone latched onto this cash cow... I think many years ago if it was deemed a PAC, Nature Conservation took care of it... well we are where we are in 2011 and as our friends in the States say... It is what it is....

Free country, I think we have freedom of speech and we can step where we want to...

I honestly think in every country the PAC rules need to looked at, I think the rules are badly outdated!

Elephants and Buffalos are shot in Zimbabwe in the Parks....below market value...because you can't import them out of Africa. Why not create a better plan!

I still think the fact you can't export elephant out of Mozambique is absurd....If they had value...meaning you could export them...there would be better management.

I just don't think selling animals at cheap prices is good management. In this day and time....there are better tools out there!

The tougher hunts are to sell these days the more PAC hunt we will see sorry but I just don’t buy it!

Both Outfitters and clients are battling to make a living in this world economic crisis but I think we will create a market that can fever be sustainable?

I am not saying anyone is doing anything illegal or funny here but it sure is funny to me that the tougher it gets to sell hunts the more PAC hunts become available all of us need to be really careful here that we don’t destroy the industry that we dearly love and work in.

Just my 2 cents?
