Death of Zimbabwe’s Best-Loved Lion Ignites Debate on Sport Hunting

Think Zim will get the military involved now.

I won’t make the obvious comparisons between there being no similar mass outpouring of grief over the hundreds of thousands dead in Syria, Iraq, Libya. Or mention the lack of global outrage at the ongoing abuse of human rights by the Mugabe regime in Zimabwe.
Back when the whole "arab spring" uprising was first going on in Syria, I recall watching a video of the aftermath of a bombing raid on a civilian area. The strike hit a playground. I've seen a lot of rough stuff, but the sight those dead children lying about with hysterical parents crying shook me to my core. That will haunt my dreams for the rest of my life. I will never look at he world the same way again. How warped are western progressive priorities that a de facto pet lion's killing (after an UNNATURAL long life) engenders so much more emotion than the real human horrors of this world?

one way to get your picture up in lights..........;)

Cecil the lion's face is projected on the Empire State Building on Aug. 1, 2015.

Huh. How about some pictures of the 10 Chadian fishermen who were decapitated that same week by Boko Haram? Guess their manes weren't long and luxurious enough

(1) on my Facebook news feed, boycott UPS for shipping "trophies" and sign their petition. Dude thinks that if we can't ship our trophies, we won't hunt them.

(2) finally seeing DSC get out and counter some of this stuff. While SCI seems very quite.

A pre Cecil article From December 7, 2012...

Should Trophy Hunting of Lions Be Banned?: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/should-trophy-hunting-of-lions-be-banned-155657735/

Is this another case of a someone who writes about stuff researched from articles on the internet?

How much more inaccurate can you get than those sources

For the guys in RSA, any documentation/research that can show how many more lions there are in SA now that 30(?) years ago due to hunting, breeding and protected land?

Anyone else see the ABC 20/20 special about Cecil the Lion tonight? It the the main story for the full hour. I feel like they made a feeble attempt to tell both sides of the story by talking to other hunters and friends of the dentist. However, it had a mostly anti-hunting feel. No big surprise I suppose.

The show was done for ratings, pure and simple. Notice at the end how they trolled for facebook posts and twitter.

Yep. I don't know why but I went over to FB and saw every comment stated that they felt dentist purposely targeted Cecil. What a bunch of hogwash. No idea what they are talking about of course. Did you notice how much of the story was told about the lions and the wildlife in Africa as if they were humans complete with human names and stories of their "family life" and implied human emotions projected onto the lions and giraffes, etc? Very weak journalism

That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
