Discontinued Product Frustration

I hear you. When I find a product I really like I am forced to buy multiples or a year later it's gone from the earth! One I am still mad about not buying a dozen of was the Sitka ultra lightweight wool liner gloves. They were so thin you could put them under any glove. NO ONE makes a similar product today. All the "liner" gloves out there are 3 times thicker. Rant off.
That reminds me, I need to check EBay again!
First lite makes a merino wool glove liner that’s nice and thin. Mack’s has a spandex glove liner that’s pretty thin as well

I made several batches of AH hats for the SCI get together, and have one or two spares.

What do you have to trade? :E Hmmm:
What you looking for? :D

Safe shooting

I feel your pain.

You can bet your next paycheck on it - if I find a pair of shoes, jeans, or a favorite type of salsa, they will discontinue it within the month.

Shackleton scotch. These crazy jokers went to almost the South pole to recover old Scotch from the original expedition. They took it back, reverse engineered it, and it was excellent.
Then they discontinued it.

I am turning into a product scavenger and seem to push the “buy it now” button as quickly as I can now.

I am getting to the point of just buying multiples whenever I like something (even when I don't need mutiples).

Many products that I buy are being discontinued and it is REALLY frustrating.

For example, over just the last four-five weeks I have discovered that all the following products are no longer available:

1. Kynoch Snap Caps (per Trader Keith)
2. Alliant Reloder powders (per Gun Stop)
3. S. W. Silver & Co. recoil pads (per Foxtrot)
4. Swarovski Z8i 1-8x24 30mm tube scopes with L4AIF reticle (per Swarovski rep).

Sadly, our slice of the hunting/shooting market must really be small and shrinking.

unfortunately, we are participating in a dying sport and the market for the younger crowd is now controlling the supply and demand. Newer whiz bang calibers that fill NO niche take the basic supply from manufacturing what we want....Guess we are also a dying breed.
Does this mean the 303 Savage is in danger of obsolescence?

Part of the reason there is so much interest in competition shooting, long range shooting, tactical guns is that the entertainment industry is promoting these through movies and video games. Correspondingly, there aren’t many new movies or popular video games centered around big game hunting. Yellowstone and it’s prequels are probably the closest thing we currently have that is popular and could get people interested in more traditional firearms and gear. We need some movie producers on our side.

Russell moccasins custom boots in their classic styles. As a person that wears a 3-4e boot and used to swear by their boots it’s a shame what the new owner has done to the company. Also when I described the problem to him he told me “your not the type of customer we want”

Cabelas used to sell a very lightweight pair of chest waders. I used a pair for almost 30 years I would guess. Back then I hunted waterfowl at least 4 times a week and was very rough on equipment. I also worked on a catfish farm wearing them every day. They were tough as hell. They finally gave up the ghost a couple of years ago when I found an old T-post out in the bay. I tried to find a pair at least close to them but everything is neoprene or so expensive I just gave up. I don’t waterfowl hunt enough anymore to justify that expense.

Yeah, and what they charge for the product is highway robbery. So many better options out there for much less.

They have a granddaughter of Russell that is running the company. She wants it to be of a high fashion company than your grandfather's boots.

Never owned a pair. They won't do custom for a 14 EE.

Name some other options please!

I don’t know the facts on Russell, but I’ve done a lot of consulting for private equity firms over my career and sadly seen up close and personal the destruction they do to products from founder-led companies (although the do end up making more money). They gut the actual product range and quality, raise prices and invest in brand image to attract customers that are fashion-oriented and urban. Shoes become hipster dress-up instead of functional. They don’t even have to fit!

Asolo, Scarpa, Salomon, Oboz to name a few. I just looked at the Russel site. Shook my head and logged off. Never again. They have obviously shifted focus and will likely lose their original customer base.

I’ll try anything! Thanks

Toyota V8 engines, and several factory loading for ammo.

There is almost nothing more annoying to me than dialing my rifles into a certain factory load, then the load being discontinued in 2-3 years.

This has happened MANY times.

The last was with a Kimber 84M in 6.5 CM.

I was about give up on that rifle, when I tried Federal Premium loaded with 140g Nosler Accubond's.
It shot 0.5 MOA with them.

I only had 10 rounds left!

Now, they no longer make them...

Dang!

(I am a reluctant reloader...)

This is why when I find a good load I buy a dozen boxes

Maybe try Gokey boots. The company is owned by a gent who bought it from Orvis. He’s a hunter too.
Gokey was the classic boot company from the same era as Russell.

@franzfmdavis
You think that's bad
In Australia we can't even go to the local hardware shop and buy round up or bindi and clover killer in concentrated form.
It all comes pre mixed so now you are paying for 99% water and a 1% concentrate. Our government doesn't trust us to mix it correctly.
Thank goodness I can buy glysophate 540 on line.
None of this wimpy glyso 360 for me. Bring out the big guns.

Hornady has discontinued the beautiful 35 cal 250gn round nose. A great bullet in the Whelen. Fortunately Woodleigh does a nice round nose in 225, 250 and 310 grains.
Don't mention spare parts. One member was looking for a simple magazine catch for his rifle. None anywhere until he stumbled across 2 in Australia. A quick phone call and it was purchased for him and mailed off. Result one happy Vegemite.

The 318 fireball is a bloody good motor. Had one in a Chrysler charger with a 4 speed stick shift.
It was a case of get in, sit down, hang on and shut up. Holy shit that thing lit up the tyres and got up and Boogied.
Only problem was the colour of the car was baby shit orange

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
