Best of luck James!

I think I might just sit back and wait for deals like this. At that price it will sell. Best of luck

I have not really been interested in hunting leopard due to the high cost of them, but this is certainly doable!!

With all due respect I know who the outfit is and they are good but, 18k in Namibia is still on the high side considering the other folks here who do a good job. I did my research on my hunt although I was unsuccessful due to the Weather conditions at the time . Adding to the fact that price this late to me is high. Just my opinion.

Johnny your right on with this. It is a lot more money than I paid to not get my leopard as well.:rolleyes::confused:

Sorry, I couldn't resist... :sneaky: I have been researching leopard hunts a bit as it is at the top of my wish list for my next excursion to Africa. And yea they are priced all over the board and Namibia seems to be the lowest priced in general right now but perhaps some deals could be had in Zim as well. Especially the private land or farm hunts. I think a lot of leopard hunts where priced higher when it became known that no leopard tags would be available from RSA this year. And I wonder if a few guys backed off of hunting them when those prices seems to be going up almost daily at the shows last winter... Zambian cats became available and where reported to be out in day time and huge sized.. So they sold at premiums to guys who wanted them an could afford them... Zimbabwe sold some, Mozambique, Tanzania... All wild places with opportunity for real wild hunts on large concessions.... Along with a few places having somewhat less than stellar reputations so people get cautious about "cheap" hunts.... And with oil down and other stressors on the economy yet, plus I think a lot of people have backed down in the face of increased social media attention. So I think there are actually less cat hunters, suddenly there may be a few deals and some unused quota out there.... It will be interesting to see what next season brings.

Johnny what time of year did you hunt again? Must be getting close to the end of the practical season for leopard... When do the eland and other antelope start calving?

Eland generally calve through out the year, they don't have a season. I missed both my leopards this season, one due to the weather, other we got burnt out. First morning we checked cameras with client, 1 male, female and cub and then huge male. I am strongly thinking of only selling Leopard hunts with dogs.

Bob I hunted the last week in August for 13 days. Unfortunately northern Namibia was experiencing a severe drought one they had not seen the likes of in 40 years, this in turn caused the eland to calve early thus killing my chances of leopard hitting the Baits. We tried to find a fresh kill so we could place a hide. I plan on going back next year if my guy gets a tag. He's had this cat on bait since May!

Lovely Tom Johnny. Pity no leopards came to the baits.

Great cat. Next year!

I know Simon, I was so pumped for that hunt. We had baits being hit steady for months then..... anyway I hope my guy gets a tag and we can still import.

Things can happen on all leopard hunts keeping an individual from getting the cat. That being said:

I'm not exactly sure anymore, but this outfitter is probably over 90% on leopards. How many outfitters with over 100 leopard hunts can say that.

How many people go on 2, 3 or 4 leopard hunts to get their leopard at the discounted rate of under 16k, 14k, maybe 12k to get their leopard. What does the real cost of the leopard then become?

Importing elephants and lions are an issue now. What is next? leopards? How much longer will leopards be importable into America or the EU?

18k is a lot of money to most of us, but if you want to import a leopard while it is still possible, this is a cheap hunt. Especially when you are dealing with one of the top handful of leopard ph's out there, and an upstanding agent like James.

Thx Bob, your comments are appreciated. A cheap hunt is not always the best deal. Paying more for a quality hunt with a reputable outfitter is always a better bet.

Cheap hunt? If you call paying 14-16k cheap to hunt I guess most of us don't belong here.

While on my way to SA this summer I met a guy going to hunt leopard in Zim at the airport. He went on and on about his outfitter. What a great leopard area they had, how many leopards, big males on camera, and a quality PH.

He said he'd gotten a great deal, and an even better deal this time, since it was his third trip. He'd just had bad luck he said. They'd go sit in a blind all night and dang it, the big male had hit a different bait. Then they would switch to that bait and dang it a male would hit the bait where they'd been. They just had 30 days of bad luck is all....

I didn't have the heart to ask him why they didn't take the other baits down once the male started hitting a bait. Hope he got his Tom on the third trip.... I wouldn't bet he did though, but he got a great deal. ;)

@johnnyblues i don't have any intention of getting into an argument over the hunt.

Guys who pick their hunt based solely on price are disappointed more often than not.

I have a client who has been on 3 unsuccessful 12-14k hunts. But my hunt at 20k was too expensive. With flights and bait conservatively he is close 60k in hunts, and still no cat. I work with good outfitters who deliver what they promise. I'm not saying the most expensive hunt is the best. But paying extra and working with a reputable outfitter who has taken numerous cats may work out to be the cheapest hunt.
