DSC thread Deleted

As a DSC life member I can honestly say that the organization I joined over 15 years ago is no longer serving my best interest, I will continue to support SCI and let DSC continue to spiral.

Recovery is possible if the leadership wants to recover. It takes a lot of soul searching and a ton of open and honest communication. The leadership of DSC has made it clear that they aren’t interested in communicating. They’ve made their bed. See ya’ll in Nashville.

Bring yourself to Dallas… TTHA is growing… they’ve leased three halls at Kay Bailey for January… and last years show had numerous international outfitters (many are AH sponsors)… we’ll be hosting a party that weekend as well.. we’ve had more than sixty AH members attend previous parties… this past year with TTHA being an inaugural show and mostly DFW locals we still had more than forty attend… I’m pretty sure with TTHA growing we’ll be back up to a sixty plus crowd next year..

I just might! Now that I’m retired, I have time for both Dallas and Nashville!

Considering TTHA next year has all three halls that DSC used, I would agree it's growing.

We will see what happens next year with DSC. The deleted thread will be forgotten - memories fade. The blow up over a "Huntin' Club" or "Conservation Organization" will be over. The Foundation will continue to make conservation grants, no matter which direction the "Club" goes. How successful DSC will be next year remains to be seen. I doubt Atlanta would get another storm the same days as the show two years in a row. The real question is how many of that 3.1 million license holders will buy at the DSC show. Two bad shows in a row, that's when the problems will begin. That would be less money for the foundation and conservation.

My guess is it’s going to take a few years, a lot of hard work, and a lot of marketing to start converting large numbers of Southeastern hunters into “international hunters”..

The easy part (which won’t be easy at all) will be attracting them to the show…

Getting them to buy is another thing all together..

Most well healed south eastern big game hunters I know dream about guided elk hunts out west, chasing brown bear in Alaska or Canada, etc… Africa and Europe aren’t really on their radar as hunting destinations..

There are certainly some international hunters in the Southeast.. many of them are regulars on AH… but the “culture” is definitely different and the density compared to TX isn’t close..

I think the chapter system is DSCs best hope.. get them involved in outreach and bringing new members on board… and there’s a chance…

But without a lot of marketing dollars spent (and spent very wisely and precisely), ATL is going to continue to be a disaster…

And I think it’s going to take some time..

If you market well you MIGHT get Georgians, Alabamans, Tennesseans, etc to show up… but it’s going to be a stretch to get many that are more than a 4-5 hour drive to do it.. and they’ve lost the commitment of a huge % of the older membership they prior to 18 months ago they could have counted on..

The problem is.. if those curious new Georgians, Alabamans, etc don’t buy hunts… outfitters are going to rapidly start abandoning the show..

And if that happens.. the show is dead in a matter of just a few years…

I said it before and will again. Regardless of the controversy on the direction of DSC, the Atlanta show was great for an attendee. The booths were hardly busy and plenty of time to talk to folks uninterrupted.

I want the show to be successful for the long term but if you want to talk outfitters a poorly attended show is great.

The problem is the only person it’s good for is the attendee…

It sucks for the outfitter that’s losing tons of money… it sucks for the organization hosting the show since they start having a drop in revenue… and it seriously sucks for conservation since less revenue = less money for programs..

Of course if you’re a hunting club first and a conservation organization second… there should be plenty of money available for club activities and awards regardless… so I guess there’s another winner in there too… lol

I agree it isn’t sustainable. I’m just saying if you’re deciding what to attend the less attended show presents a good attendee experience.

I was there and I agree with you. It was like having a couple hundred outfitters set up booths just to talk with me! But I also know that a couple more lightly attended shows like that will kill the convention.

I don’t know about the Southeast overall, but the international hunting community in the Birmingham area is pretty large and active.

I think a huge challenge DSC faces in the Southeast is trying to get folks in the region to go to Atlanta. It’s a complete non-starter for me, and most folks I know feel the same way. Given the choice between Atlanta and Nashville, Nashville is going to win every time.

IMO the Atlanta decision was an absolute train wreck. The sooner they extract themselves, the sooner they will be able to begin to rebuild.

I’m worried about Greg. He seems to have gone missing.

I was going to put his actual picture on the milk carton, but I don’t want to get any nasty letters from attorneys.

Yeah, @Greg Simons joined AH on Friday 4/7/25 and last log in was Monday 4/10/25, which coincides with the disappearance of the DSC thread; also he has no postings of any kind, not even an introduction.

Hmmmm.... Why would a DSC director join a forum with as many DSC members and convention attendees as AH and communicate NOTHING?

I think that is very telling.

Attendance at the convention was so poor they can't afford to be a sponsor and their posts deleted as would be considered advertising?

LOL

In the absence of communication, people tend to assume the worst. DSC would do well to heed this truth.

My apology for the silence, I was traveling from Tuesday to Thursday and I'm catching up with my work. All of this has happened very quickly right on the cusp of my departure from the States back to Africa. I will be addressing this matter over the weekend to give some clarity as to what happened.

Why am I even checking this thread? I would prefer getting kicked in the junk over attending any convention. Guess I'm a sucker for spectator sport drama. :D

Perhaps consider the possibility that @Greg Simons is not who he professes to be? Anyone can join under any name. But if he really is a troll, I would think he would have been banned when the thread disappeared. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Where did I put my Jiffy Pop?

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
