I have just seen on instagram an outfitter posting a video of a very large gut shot springbok. The animal is obviously still alive , the animal has been propped up with the hunter moving its head around to get the best angles for the video- Personally I think that is in poor taste and playing into the hands on the Antis as it is obviously the trophy is more important then the welfare of the animal. Yes if a pack of wild dogs had caught it. It would have been eaten alive - but we must do better.

Am I being over sensitive or do others agrees it is in poor taste- 10 minutes and the animal would hopefully of died. Then take your videos-

Everyone is going to say it’s wrong. I think highlighting the video in this thread has the potential to cause more damage though. Anti-hunters actively watch here too. Most non-hunters and anti-hunters wouldn’t notice anything different in video that compared to a normal trophy photo unless they were told to look. I watched a few times to verify what I thought saw. Something about it seems off.

I had seen this video as well. But I don’t think that it’s been gut shot. This is clearly a breeder male as stated so I doubt they would harvest this buck. You can see it’s chewing or something of that nature and it’s ear moving. As well the saliva is not bloody. I’m guessing it’s been darted to show off in the video and that the blood you can see on its side? Just my thoughts as I was shocked when I seen it originally. I could be wrong…. Regardless poor taste to post

That makes more sense to me. Something seems off in that video, but with the caption “meet our breeding ram Rassie 19” darting and showing off their genetics makes a lot of sense.

I was thinking that too at first , but no explanation, 30 plus comments most saying bad taste as still alive- context is everything, can’t post half a story. If it darted say it is darted- I have shot old breeding stock in SA so it does get shot. Would not post a video of looking half dead.

Public will only see the bad. We are on a slippery slope already without shooting ourselves in the foot-

If it is darted, get the outfitter to clarify this on the post and get admin to remove this post

The post has been up since 9 September, they have not clarified that fact that it is darted . Lots of people commented on the fact it dying - Not good public relations in these times.

Am I understanding you to say the hunter was posing with an animal that was still alive? I can’t imagine anyone doing this let alone posting it online, however people keep finding new and unusual ways to make me question humanity.

Send me the link in a Pm if you don’t mind.

It’s unfortunate they won’t clarify, but it doesn’t appear that they are an outfitter. It looks to a breeder with impressive genetics that sells hunts to outfitters on their land. It appears darted. The caption is “meet our breeder” appears alive and no outfitter is listed as hunting it. There isn’t a point making it more than it is.

You don’t need instagram to click on the Instagram link and see the video.

Agreed.

If these idiots want to pose with a live animal, perhaps they should try doing it with an old Dugga Boy. I’d actually watch that just to see how the morons get sorted out. They’d be candidates for a Darwin Award.

If if if if if some one let an animal suffer a single second when they could cleanly dispatch it there is a special place in hell for them. I do not know any details about this situation but damn I hope it didn't occur

Serious big game hunters need to be diplomats for our sport and call out the goobers who post anything on line that would show anything that would turn Non-hunters into Anti-hunters.

Most people who don't hunt aren't against other people hunting who hunt, until they see things that look gory or inhumane.

As ethical big-game hunters, we all try our best to take every animal as quickly as possible.

If we post pictures, they need to pictures taken with taste.

We need to (as politely as we can muster) shame anyone posting anything online that indicates anything differently, because it only reflects badly on the majority of ethical hunters.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
