@ Green Chile I remember this rifle from Gordy & Sons well. I handled it in the store a number of times. It’s a beautiful piece, the black background that G & S does a good job of contrasting some of the wood grain but it’s a deeper, darker piece of walnut and less red that I remember in person. If I’m mistaken please correct me, but it’s a common trend with most of their pictures/pieces.

Correct. It is less red in person and more like the outdoor photos I shared here. It's pretty stunning overall AND accurate...and by that I mean forget the paper...almost a dozen impala headshots off sticks out in the field in heavy brush past 100 yards, etc. Real world accuracy meaning it's very shootable in the field not just off a comfy benchrest.

Thanks Jay. I was actually happier about the .416 Rigby grouping so tight. I quit before I threw a flier on that target!

I was impressed with the little Dakota 10's shoot ability in the field. Out of the 12 impala taken for leopard bait, over half of them were head shots off the sticks out to 120 yards in very tall grass. It's just easy to shoot well. It also reloads faster than you might think. I had one scenario where I shot 3 impala in less than 1 minute as a herd moved around in front of us.

Being that accurate. I’m curious on how the hammer or firing pin work. I don’t see an external hammer.

So what would be the lock time. I’m assuming the lock time must be short with that accuracy level. And that your an excellent shot.

What hits the pin ?

The lock time is a good question. All of Dakota's literature and the reviews of it comment on the "fast lock time" but I can't find any numbers on it. Here's a cutaway of the action to show what's taking place inside the falling block.

I learned the importance of lock time the hard way.
I had several LR 600, 1000 and 1200 yard competition bolt action rifles. Then I got the itch to build an AR-10 platform in .260 Remington. Using the best components, BCG, barrel, trigger, upper lower. Spent quite a bit to get into a different run and gun LR competition.

The lock time on the AR platform is like firing a flintlock. They can be very accurate but your form must be perfect.

I would never have guessed the Savage lock time was that quick. I know my Anschutz are wicked fast.

Here is my wife’s 110 ultralite in .308 and what she will use for leopard in May

I added foam on the cheek piece and covered it in thin elk leather. To fit her
I added automotive sound deadening material on the inside of the rear stock to remove the cheap plastic sound. And help with balance
