fast twist 270 Winchester

update on the loads.

went to the range to creep up on max or near max using Magpro and 150 ABLR.

i changed the chamber since last try. with the .600" throat the bullets touch up at 3.89" COL.

this lot were seated at 3.50" COL giving .390" freebore.

so now the data. my starting load was 55 grains of Magpro to 62 grains of Magpro.

the speed started at 2550 for the 55 grain load. at 62 grains it shot at average 2989fps. no pressure issues. i loaded 61, 61.5, 61.7, 62. 1.25" groups with no center dot.

berger sent me load data for my setup and 170 EOL using AA4350 and Magpro.

Sounds about right I've been getting 3020 fps out of my 270 with 150g Partitions using 58.5g of H4831 forever. This might be too hot for some rifles so please start low and work up checking for pressure signs. BTW I have an 80s vintage Mark V in 270 Weatherby and I'm interested in a 1 in 8" twist barrel see how fast I could make those 165g ABLRs go :)

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?

That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
