Just completed the most exciting hunt in my life with Wayne Van Den Bergh and Nyamazana Safaris! Based out of a classic fly-camp in the Gwai river area, I was surrounded by cows and bulls multiple times during the 8 days it took to get my bull - hunting whitetails will never be the same!! For avid hunters and adventures, this hunt will not disappoint!

Congrats and thanks for sharing!

Waidmannsheil @David Rohret ! Well done.
How did the showdown go? Heart shot? side or frontal brain shot?
And what is the result in weight? :)

It was the second to the last day of my hunt and we went out at night to one of the remaining water holes in the area. At 10 PM a herd of cows and calves surrounded us which is an eerie feeling as you could hear the using their tusks to scrape for salt. Wayne, my PH, motioned me towards the area they were digging for salt as he spotted a large bull following the heard. He lit it up from 5 yards away and I gave it a heart/lung, as well as a couple going away shots. He dropped about 40 yards away and we recovered him the following morning.

The tusks looked good, but as travel plans had me leaving the next day they were not cut out yet when.I left. Once their out and the nerve is removed, I'll give an update.

awesome Tusker! congrats on successful safari and thanks for sharing!

Well done and thanks for sharing!

Congrats!!! That's my dream hunt. I have a 416 Ruger as well, and was curious how it would do on a hunt like that. Glad to hear it worked out.

Curiously, what rendition of the 416 Ruger did you use, and bullet combination? I have an Alaskan. Thanks. DJ

I have the Hawkeye African and used Hornady 400gr solids. The 2 bullets we recovered I could reload, as they showed no wear. The action was excellent, allowing me to get off 3 rapid shots.

Congratulations, looks like a really nice bull and an exciting hunt.

I did this hunt with Wayne and highly recommend to all members. Take a look at Wayne's pricing. Very affordable considering it is an elephant hunt. Going back in 2026. Most exciting hunt of your life!!!

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
