Fishing Addiction Group

Just a heads-up the you tube channel jigging jerks is doing a subscriber contest, to fish on his charter boat in Eastern long Island on July 5. He will pic 4 subscribers for that day, should be fluke fishing but could be bass or a mix. He just posted a video about it and just need to be a subscriber and comment on that video.

Good luck, im not sure how I will get there if I'm one of the lucky ones but will try my best lol.

Anyone here into ice fishing? I’m an addict! That’s the first step I guess…
I ice fish but winters haven't been the best here for ice, only 2 days last winter with good ice and only out one day this year with good ice. We will have good ice but then a warm spell or rain would ruin it. Driving a few hours up north helps to get on more ice but haven't had the money to do so.

That sounds pretty much like how it is for me in Nebraska. Some years I’ll get weeks to fish and others will only be a few days. I usually end up in South Dakota a few times a year but that is getting difficult even. Hopefully this season will be a cold one!

Ya you never know how cold it will be year to year even regional some places get colder on average and don't have warm spiks other do. I'm heavy so I like having about 5-6" of good clear ice or 6-7" white ice so there's some days I probably miss out. 2 years ago it was cold but even then we don't get much more the a foot, there always seems to be at least one mid season warm up that kills the ice. A hours drive north they will get about 2 feet. Some years tho I'll see guys ice fish on the Delaware rifle for trout and walleye but there isn't any fish that will make me fish on a river unless it's close to the artic circle.

Maybe some day I'll finally do a trip up to Lake Erie.

Great fish ! Out of all the fish that swim the Gulf a swordfish is one I haven’t caught. Really haven’t fished for them but have seen a couple on the surface sunning while tuna or marlin fishing , trolled around them and threw a bait or two at them but that just pissed them off, they would free jump and disappear. Congratulations on some fine eating.
The one that did not get away. Buddy and I headed to Venice, Louisiana for some offshore fishing. Targets were big snapper, tuna and swordfish. We managed to knock it out with a monster 219 lb sword hooked about 1000 ft down and on the line for 3 hours. It was a 3 man crew trading off to get that beast in the boat.

I am big time. I posted quite a few icefishing pics on this thread. Never have to worry about poor ice conditions here…last winter was quite mild and we still had at least 2 1/2 feet of ice.

Fishing has been good in NE Florida. All fun and games until you hook one of these hateful fish on 10lb testView attachment 613891
Hah! I hear ya. Educate me- that’s a jack crevalle correct? I’d never caught one before last week but my son hooked a decent one that pinned him to the rail then proceeded to kick my ass for a while before I finally got him in. I’ve caught amber jack bigger than that thing that seemed half as strong. Hateful is a great adjective for them!

That is a jack crevalle and your assesment is correct. Much worse than an Amberjack. Those crevalles are hateful.

I released ours- but are they any good to eat? Parasites in meat?

The only people that I’ve seen keep jack crevella are the local Vietnamese, not sure how they cook them but I would think it involves a lot of spices.

Tossed mine back. Tried smoking a smaller one once and never again. They do make great shark bait.
Sounds good. Unfortunately the way it’s going in the panhandle gulf everything we catch has a great chance of being shark bait. I’ve got some good spots that seem just about ruined by sharks the last couple years.

Totally agree, if it’s not the sharks it’s the stinking dolphin grabbing everything from snapper to tuna!

Caught this one on a farm pond. Looks healthy except for the bubble.

Never seen that bubble around the eye before. From 1992 to around 2000 I did fish consumption surveys for the state of Alabama Department of Environmental Management and measured and weighed many thousands of freshwater fish and never came across anything like that. May be a parasite around the eyeball.

My thought exactly, you think the water is contaminated ?

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
