I have to ask, is this the old WW2 German round or a variation thereof?

No marks. I can take photos of any area that you would like to see in more detail. The scope is a redfield 3x 9x that is as old as the rifle.Any marks? What kind of scope?

Yes the 8x68s is an earlier German round .....perhaps 10 percent less powerful than the 8mm rem mag ...Very popular in Europe ...and no belted caseRemington came out with the 8mm mag in 1978 .
