Actually checked the 8mm rem is the parent case for the jonny come lately 416 rem mag ....

So learning ...however my Rigbys will remain in the safe DG calibres were sorted before the 14 war .......Plains game before the Second .....

17hmr is the only thing to improve .....

one alternative is to rebarrel any of the belted magnums ... i.e. 7mm rem mag or 375 hh

I had one when they first came out. I couldn’t get less than two inch groups except for the 175gr Sierra which would go into an inch. I sold the rifle but I’ve always thought it was a great cartridge.

The one thing, Bullet diameter of the 8mm Remington Magnum is 5% larger than the .30 caliber bore and roughly 5% smaller than the .338.
The biggest reason that the 8mm wasn't continued in my opinion. It was the popularity of the Military's Sniper Caliber .338 Lapua Magnum Round. But if you look at the ballastics report. The 8mm magnum out did the .338 Lapua Magnum with lesser grain.
Due to heavy recoil of the 8mm Rem Mag. We will never really know its full and great potential. I am 6' 7" and weigh 347lbs. I shoot my without hesitation, but I do not want to ruin the chamber with a extreme hot load past 250gr. I would love to see it at 300gr.

I have never owned either round but the Lapua has a larger case capacity and a bigger bullet base for it to push on, so not sure what you are reading to lead you to conclusion that the Rem "out did the Lapua with lesser grain".

I understand that in ever discussion everyone will be for it or against. I feel that is their God given right. I believe that and I fought and still have brothers down range in country right now.
I do apologize. I should have put up where I go my references. All I do now is read, research, etc before I purchase anything. Because I own them both. The 338 Lapua Magnum parent is the 416 Magnum. The 416 Magnum parents is the 8mm Remington Magnum. Now that we have that out of the way.
Yes, 338 lapua round is 5 percent bigger and hold only 50 grains of pounder. I said that the 8mm Remington Magnum would out do the Lapua with less pouder, and it does. Even the 300 win mag ballastics come in 3600 to 3700 for a 110 grain bullet. I have posted the Ballastics Reports from Terminal Ballastics Research for both calibers.

The parent case for the Lapua is the Rigby not the Remington, now we have that out of the way. The smaller case will almost always do more with less, .308 vs 30-06., but the larger powder capacity case will eventually catch up and will win every time.

I stand corrected. I apologize and appreciate you letting me know my wrong doings.
It is like I said, "In every discussion or debate, you are either for it or against?" I feel that if the 8mm Rem Mag was given the chance of popularity, that of the .300, 338, etc. Remington just only made a few of them for 7 years. Who knows what it could have been? So, there is no telling what kind of rifle it could have been. Because the biggest complaint people had was the terrible 41 lb recoil. Their were no muzzle breaks back then. Like even now, it claimed that bigger will out do the smaller?
The 8mm Rem Mag is only 5% smaller than the 338 Lapua Magnum. I have enclosed the pics to back up the reference from Wikipedia. Oh, I will close with this. I feel that back in 1986, a gallon of gas was $0.91, average new car was $7,651, and new 8mm rem mag rifle was $275 with box ammo $20.00. Now ammo is $125 and rifle is $1300 and the Lapua Magnum is $3000.00 and up?
