Free Range Buffalo Hunt in South Africa

I would say the attraction of hunting other countries such as Zambia for buff is firstly there are no restrictions and secondly you get to hunt a host of PG at the same time. A good PH will strive to get you the best possible trophy the area has to offer whether your desire be age or inches.

Having said that the APNR produces some top notch buff and this would be a great hunt.

Who did you hunt your buff with may I ask?
John Henry Keyser and a gentleman by the name of Piet. The areas only gets so many tags per year and I was blessed to have had the opportunity for one of the. Truly wild Africa and an experience I will never forget.

Is it just me or has this same hunt been offered on this forum by another outfitter at a cheaper price?

And why is it that the exact area is not specified on any of the offers? I would not book a hunt unless I know exactly where I'm going.

Great Land Safaris with PH John Henry organized the hunting trip. John Henry does most of his hunting out of Thabazimbi, SA and has contacts with the outfit in the Umubat. I have more details about the exact name of the concession where we hunted and if I can be of assistance as a reference please let me know. Unbelievable experience and will booking my trip back to hunt buffalo again in the same area for 2016.

Regards,

Thor, a similar hunt to this may have been offered on AH I'm sure. It is mentioned that the hunts will take place in the APNR. The APNR (Associated Private Nature Reserves) includes Klaserie, Umbabat, Timbavati and others. It is open to any outfitter to buy quota from them at a tendered price or a set price and then offer it to their clients. There are a couple outfits who have quota in these areas, as you will see from the other posts on this thread. The prices will vary from area to area as well as outfitter to outfitter depending on prices tendered/payed, area hunted and accommodation/camp offered to the clients. I am offering the above mentioned hunts in both the Klaserie as well as the Umbabat to be more specific for you.

Thank you for the clarification Alex and good luck on getting your hunts sold.
I know in the APNR your clients will have some of the best chances on good old buffs.

Thank you Thor. All the best for you gents up in Zambia!

RickP,
I respect your thoughts, and honestly appreciate your stance in that we hunt for the experience of the hunt. The trophy at the end of the day is ultimately an added appreciation to a good hunt. I for one am not the type who would hunt small, high fenced properties and pay extra because my deers antler was an inch larger than id hoped for.
I must however inform you that these type of hunts are not completely what one may think of the "GAME of bigger costs more".
The reserves in these areas are all large, unfenced and free range concessions open to large national parks and hunted under fair chase conditions. All of the reserves have scientifically allocated quotas of certain sized old buffalo bulls in order to- 1. create funds for the reserves maintenance and anti poaching and 2. manage the and maintain the fantastic quality of game these areas all have.
Note that there are "unrestricted bulls" to hunt which will allow the hunter to shoot a mature buffalo of any size he wishes be it 34" or 44".
The "Dagga bulls & Classic bulls" are not to be discredited, but play an important part in managing the trophy quality in the reserves as they are more affordable to those who wish just to hunt for a mature bull and enjoy the experience of a great buffalo hunt. These hunts also ensure that the reserves do not "over shoot" all the top genetic bulls and maintain great quality for the future. I fully support these management policies and stand by it firmly.

At the end of the day sir, it is every hunter to themselves. I will guide a hunter with pleasure who books to hunt a "Dagga Bull" with me, be it because he/she finds it more financially attractive, or is just wanting to experience the thrill of a buffalo hunt.

Again, I fully respect your approach to a hunt and appreciate it. If you are one who would like to hunt a free range buffalo without "restrictions" then I would like to invite you to come to one of my other concession which is in Mozambique bordering the same national park. My buffalo here are going for $25,000 all in, and you are welcome to hunt any bull, be it 34" or 44".

Best regards
Alex

Great reply Alex

For the record, Alex McDonald is no crook. He runs an upfront honest company and is held in high regard by many of his peers.

The great trophy quality in these areas are due to MANAGEMENT.
management costs money.

Great looking buffalo Alex. I wish we could all afford buffalo like that in a fair chase environment. Continued success.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
