I have a leopard hunt in Namibia later this year and planning to take my 338 WM. Most of the ammo I have on had are 225 gr Swift A Frame hand loads. Not wanting to use the tough SAF on a cat, I was think of buying a few boxes of Remington Core-Lokt and call it good. I did a search on Ammoseek and found them available for about $48/box. Just on a whim, I searched on Norma and came up with a really good deal for 230 gr Norma Oryx. Thought I'd pass it along. I ordered 5 boxes to get the free shipping when over $199.

This is my first time to deal with Kir Ammo, out of Fort Worth, TX and they appear to be legit base on a number of reviews I've read.

WAIT! .375 Ruger Fan - .338" How can this be?!?!?!?! LOL!!!!

Just had to highlight that irony.
I'm taking my 404 J for the big stuff and the 338 WM for the cat and PG. The 375 is staying home.

I actually took the Leica Magnus scope with illuminated reticle off of my 375 Ruger and put it on my 338 WM. Since both rifles are Ruger Hawkeyes, the scope with Alaska Arms quick detachable rings easily came off one rifle and onto the other. It required only a slight adjustment at the range.

I ordered 5 boxes on Thursday morning. They were delivered today, via UPS. Great price and super fast delivery!

Are you using the Oryx on your leopard? Or sticking with the core-loct? Where are you hunting old chui?

Great price on that ammo.

As I mentioned in the first post, I have a bunch of Swift A Frames rounds but wanted a softer bullet for leopard. I thought Core-Lokts would work and are readily available and relatively cheap. And they work! But I did a search on Ammoseek and found the Norma Oryx rounds at a great price and it will give me some good brass to reload. So to answer your question, I am going with the Norma Oryx bullets.

Will be hunting with Nick Nolte Safaris in Namibia for leopard. Immediately after that, I go up to the Caprivi region and hunt buffalo with @ndumo HUNTING SAFARIS and Karl Stumpfe. Will use my 404J with 400 gr Swift A Frames.

The reason I asked was I bought 4 boxes of oryx , they were at a good price but I had never used them before and was curious about their performance. They are the 230gr 338 Win mag. I’m probably going to use them for tsessebe, blue and black wildebeest and red hartebeest in the Limpopo in August.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
