Oooh. Reliability. Is that something to worry about in a modern cartridge or just a “one in a million…so you’re saying there’s a chance” kind of thing? Not being a smart ass here I really don’t know?

The pressure issues were from the old cordite powders back when these big volume cases were developed if I am remembering it correctly. I would not be overly worried about todays powders and I would not worry at all about hunting with a 416 Rem in Africa. Building a 416 Rigby requires an action that is large enough which adds to the cost. Much easier to find an action suitable for a 416 Remington build, especially if a company is already building 375 H&H's which is the parent case (via the 8mm Rem Mag).

Well, IF/WHEN you decide to part with it and the original has moved on to Creedmoors or PRCs and such and doesn't want it back, I'd be interested in it. LOL

I already had a LH Sako 85 Hunter & a LH Steyr CL II in 30-06 so I absolutely did not need another one in that caliber. But a pristine, new in box, LH Remington 700 Custom Classic with a Timney trigger and Leupold scope mount was sitting there for $799 and no one else bid on it. It's really nice & I can't see any indication that it was ever fired. I was thinking of having it rebored into a 35 Whelen since there aren't any factory LH models in that chambering that I know of. Or I might set it up exclusively for nighttime hog hunting. I'll think of something to do with it!

Nice looking rifle. As I have just recently had a 30-06 re-barreled into a 35 Whelen, I can tell you I’ve been impressed with the caliber. Absolutely more than I “need” for local deer and pigs but it has preformed great in that regard. I just need to figure out where I want to take it on a trip to and for which animal.

Years ago he built me a 12 bore underhammer muzzle loader. It is an extremely well made and shoots a 12 bore round ball, it is my elk muzzle loader.

He does very good and fairly priced work.

@375 Ruger Fan, Thanks for the links. I knew that some ammo was available since I did a quick search on AmmoSeek when the rifle was less than $1k. It can be found but it's still pretty scarce & can be a bit pricey depending on how it's acquired. Please don't encourage me to add that missing 416 to my collection as I've already bought another rifle this month & I have notoriously low will power. I'm running out of space!

I was just in a store yesterday that had at least 15 boxes of 416 Ruger on the shelf. Some was DGS and some was DGX, not sure if it was bonded or the older non-bonded stuff. Price was very reasonable, about $70 per box.

Here is a very solid deal if one likes the .416 Rem. The Z6i EE is valued at somewhere around $3500+ (yes, I have seen some listed for significantly more). It is for sale on Matt Robert's (MNR) site in the gun vault.

Entire package is $12K. The rifle takes a little bit of a ding for the chambering, but very good offering for the money.

Square bridges were added to the Mauser action that are fitted with Bolliger's custom QD scope mounts. When the scope is removed, the caps fill the bridges, leaving a clean look. Three position Winchester-style safety, a checkered knob was added to the bolt release, blackburn bottom metal, and a Rechnagel trigger, the Orbendorf style bolt handle is finely checkered with five panels. The barrel features a fully integral quarter rib, sling swivel, secondary recoil lug, and front sight with both quarter rib and front sight ramp finely stippled.



The muzzle is threaded for a muzzle brake and a thread protector.



The highly-figured English walnut is shaped in an American classic style and is finished off with Bolliger's signature fleur de lis checkering. It features a trap door grip cap, inletted rear sling swivel, a "widow's peak" ebony forend tip, and a gracefully done palm swell.



There's some scuff marks on the stock below the bolt release, but the rest of the stock is in great condition and the metal work is immaculate.



The scope is included!

That is a damn fine looking rifle.

They will not. Actually can not. The 300 H&H takes a magnum action so it would have needed to be built on a RSM action, not the Express. And Ruger has long ago disposed of the machines they made the true Magnum actions on as they were worn out. This also seems to be the reason the 375 Ruger and 416 Ruger calibers were developed, so Ruger could build those on 30-06 length actions.

I asked about a 300 H&H in the Hawkeye African and was told the same.

That's what I meant. Express style with the magnum action. I get it that they never will, but sadly tastes have changed.

I think you would need to have one custom built on a RSM 375 H&H action.

Back to this, the purpose of this thread. This is one heck of a good deal that I would have scooped up if I didn't have two already

Interarm's cut down the lower portion of the feed ramp on their long action (non magnum) factory receivers on their Mark X and Interarms models to accept the .375 H&H cartridge. I have one and it functions flawlessly. There is/was a custom Interarms here for sale in .416 Remington so it could be done for other magnum length cartridges. I'm wondering if the same could be done for the current Ruger M77 long action models?
