Good Gun Deals This Week

Not sure if this qualifies as a "good deal", but is certainly an interesting chance to guess what model and caliber this is: https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/101769666
I believe it’s a sporterized Arisaka? I don’t know if it’s a model 38 or 99? The Chrysanthemum engraving on top of the receiver is missing but a lot were sanded off after the war. There’s a 99 at my local Bass Pro with a clear Chrysanthemum but they also list it as unknown make, model and cartridge. I told them what it was but the guy looked at me like I had two heads. I guess cause it wasn’t a black gun.

Well, just for sh@ts n giggles... I took a look at the rock island auction coming up and they have at least two relatively affordable doubles in decent cartridges going for sale next month: a rigby rising bit in 470ne and a Krieghoff Classic double in .500/416.

I can't afford or justify one but maybe one of you guys could. There's also a few in smaller or slower/vintage/blackpowder calibers like 8x57, 9.3x74r, 500 & 450 black powder express.

That Rigby in 450NE will go for multiple's of the high estimate. A good/great condition fully engraved 1901 Rigby Rising Bite with 15.5" stock...

Hello friend. Peanut gallery here, feel free to dismiss my armchair quarterbacking.

I'm not a fan of 500/416s because I think they were a brief fad that will not stand the test of time. In turn, that will leave the owner struggling for headstamped brass, all the miserable recoil of a largebore, and less of the efficacy of its parent/s cases.

That being said, my negative opinion of the 500/416 is clearly not as negative as others. I have seen them occasionally sell at auction for a pittance. As in, like $6000 for a k-gun. While I hate them, if they are too cheap to be denied, I'd certainly recommend a shoestring budget friend grab one if its cheap.

But please, please, don't spend good money on a 500/416, its not going to survive the test of time. (the only proven "survivors" of fads are the 450-400 3", the 470NE, and the 500NE).

I tend to agree with you, but RIA is a very weird auction house. The USA's largest, they tend to cater to my least favorite collector: The American. (e.g. the colt/winchester/browning collector, everything new in box never fired). Occasionally, the best gun collectors are underrepresented in their auctions. That Rigby is probably worth $45,000 wholesale, $68,000 retail. (I didn't read the details and personally inspect, that's a spitball estimate). Could it potentially be purchased for a song at that venue? Occasionally. RIA is not known for high quality British sporting arms.

A dealer or two or three will bid that Rigby up way out of standard market range, so it can sit their website hoping to get a fellow with more money than sense to ultimately pay $55-70k+ for it because it's a Rigby bought from an established dealer. It's not really worth anywhere near that.

The crazier part is that gun was originally listed for $1449. There aren’t any CZ550s not marked up to $2-3k though.
Yup I saw that and tried to get them to honor the prior price the next day. I had screen caps and everything. They told me I should choose a gun I could afford as though that was the point. For the money, I think the Winchester is going to be a much more polished rifle so I'm aiming for one of those. Plus I'll try and remake the Wiebe Xtra-Round-Magazine once I get a few more dimensions when I have the WinSafari in hand. I'll have to dust off my autocad skills.

They have or had an add with a MRC 1999 that I was curious about. I emailed them asking a specific question about it and if they had more pictures. Their response was a just link to the existing add.

Not too much faith in this stores gun library. Pretty easy to see is an Arisaka, and likely a type 99 heavily bubba'd.
hi, does this sound accurate and reasonable? thx in advance.
Arisaka Type 99 was a bolt-action rifle used by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. It was adopted in 1939 and was designed to be a shorter and lighter version of the earlier Type 38 rifle, with a more powerful 7.7mm cartridge
Arisaka Type 99 rifle
Excellent (All matching numbers, intact mum, good bore): 1,200–1,200–3,000+
Good (Minor wear, mismatched parts, defaced mum): 600–600–1,200
Fair (Rust, heavy wear, missing parts): 300–300–600
Poor (Non-functional, heavily damaged): 150–150–300
2. Intact Chrysanthemum ("Mum") Mark
Rifles with an undefaced Imperial Chrysanthemum

had similar type response on gun this week...
my opinion so not trying to offend anyone here.
seems since the infusion of bass pro intelligence. i call it counter intelligence. i truly believe anti gun guys gals. like i witnessed on west coast. work at some bass pro / cabelas and think themselves clever by impeding the acquisition of guns...

Montana Rifle Company’s Professional Hunter is built around a double square bridge magnum version of the Model 1999. is the store that has this rifle, west of the Missouri river?

It was a .375 H&H that didn’t look to be any of the former MRC’s upper tier models. I didn’t notice where it was located.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
