Good Sale At Midway For 375 Plinkers

I bought 15 boxes, ordered 5 at first, 10 the day after I got the first 5. I believe they are hornady's but not 100% sure. I can't find anything wrong except slight discoloration. They are uniform and weight good at 270 gr. great bullet for hogs and charging jack rabbits! Lol.

We must be related! ;)

I ordered 5 boxes one day, with some other stuff. Then the next day I said "awe heck" and bought 10 more!

Definitely Hornady...I have been shooting them off and on for 25 years...still the same.

The batch of 750 I got are pristine...they look better than the last batch of "firsts" I bought from an old shop in Eau Claire, WI back in the 80s. I re-packaged them, so I ended up basically seeing every bullet. They look nice!

What they say? Great minds! Lol
I can't pass up a deal when it comes to hunting gear. Since I moved to Houston I've been vacuum sealing a whole lot of my extra components and rainy day ammo due to the humidity here. I don't walk by a gun in the house without the urge to slather it with frog lube!

I had the same worries when I first moved here in 1986.

I have not had a gun rust yet...I am careful to clean and wipe them down after a range session, and I periodically touch them up with an oiled patch if they've just been sitting in the safe a while...but the worries I had were over-blown.

You'll figure out what works for you after you've been here a while. But I have no horror stories to tell regarding corrosion.

Pretty sure they are Hornady.
Thanks for the info. I am ordering 2 boxes tonight.

Also, since we are discussing 375 bullets, what thought do you guys have on Barnes Solids? I found some in the 235, 250 and 270 weights. I was thinking the 235's or 250's for plains game. I am not interesting in any African dangerous games hunts at this time....maybe later.

No need for a solid on PG. stick with a good controlled expansion bullet. Although on the tiny antelope a solid might save a cape when shooting them with a 375. I've not taken a steenbok or duiker yet so I speak with no authority on the matter.
P.S. order more bullets, save yourself the shipping on the second order that you will make! Lol
Cheers-
Cody

Now that I know they are old Hornady bullets and I ordered some, I went searching in my manuals for some load data. I could not find the 270's in the last two editions (editions 8 or 9). Then I remembered that I had an older edition of the Hornady manual (Fourth Edition, 1994) and there it was. 270 gr Round Nose, ( ballistic coefficient of .253 and sectional density of .274) In the manual they list the following powders and loads:
IMR 4064 (62.1-70.2)
RL-15 (64.3-74.0)
H4895 (64.9-73.9)
Scot 4065 (70.9-75.9)
H414 (74.9-80.4)
WIN 760 (74.2-81.7)

Does anyone have any data for H335, Varget or any other powders?

Hodgdon site lists Varget with the 270gr Barnes (so approach data with usual caution) starting at 58 and maxing out at 65.

For comparative purposes, they also list IMR 4064 with the Barnes from 61 to 68, topping out 2.2 grains below the old Hornady manual you quote above.

All gone for now. :(
