My brother and I are planning a Caribou/Muskox hunt in Greenland in fall 2026. Season ruins from Aug1 to October 31. Can anyone advise me about a better/best time to plan to be hunting? We are talking to Karsten Lings who has been very helpful. We would like to go when the bulls have shed their velvet and are hard horned, and hopefully the weather might be a little warmer than late October. Can anyone shed any light on this? Does anyone have a preference on an outfitter? So far we feel very comfortable in our talks to Karsten Lings. I appreciate the help, and look forward to hearing your thoughts! Thanks.

Was there 2nd week if September 2024. It was warm enough for the caribou to be up high by the snowpacks to get away from the flies. Muskox are all over the place, seems they just don't care about the weather. Warm weather is not your friend for hunting, just don't want it brutally cold. I went with Eric at Trophy hunting Greenland, and would recommend them again.

I hunted with Karsten this past Sept, end of the month. I’d say it’s a good time to be there. Everyone in camp killed both species. Musk ox are not much of a challenge but neat critters. He had major issues with the helicopter company…I’d be really cautious booking the helicopter hunt. He’s a really good outfitter and I can’t imagine anyone else on the island would provide a better experience. Karsten knows what he’s doing & has the game.

Looks like there will be a more direct route to get there now from the US which will be a big plus…having to go to Amsterdam first was an incredible waste of time and $.

It’s a neat experience and I’d recommend the hunt and to go with Karsten. The biggest negative of the over deal is the cost to get the stuff home…it’s worse than Africa.

We hunted with Karsten second week of September 2022. Weather was overcast, daily high low ‘50’s, lows in the ‘30’s. We had an outstanding experience:

Thank you for the information and recommendation. We were also looking at the 2nd week of September, or later. Were the Caribou fully shed by that time? I would prefer hard horned Caribou if possible.

Mostly shed. My partner’s was clean, mine still had a couple small patches.

I too am looking at a hunt in Greenland in 2026. The top outfitter is Lax-A hunting. I am also looking at Iceland. Iceland make more sense for me, as a stop over and then continuing onward to Eastern/Central Europe to get a Mouflon and larger Gams.

Do you take your own rifle? From what I have read, taking your own rifle to Iceland is not allowed.

Not sure, the only report I’ve seen is the hunter used the guides gun.

Karstan Lings-Just the best people anywhere. Hunted muskox in spring. Good food, shelter , people and lots , lots and lots of game. First class equipment. I have parkinson disease and was 72. Best taken care of ever. Gave my wife and I our own room etc. The best of hunters there. Hunter with Kai of Norma ammo and two from Iceland. Every one in camp helped me with boots and sealskins. NO place better. Thanks again to Karstan Lings. PM if you would like.

I bowhunted with Karsten Lings this past Aug. everything first class, lots of game and great camp and people! The bugs were very few when I was there In mid Aug. but have been told sometimes worse, I would suggest the 1st of Sept. still good weather and less chance of bugs.

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
