I'm a Gunsmith, that has had a life long passion for Dangerous Game Rifles... I'm currently working on developing a DG Rifle with an improved Martini Action, chambered for big bore DG cartridges... When my prototype is complete, I intend to test it out, on a proper African Safari...

Welcome to the forum, were are you from? I’m also Canadian and have a big appreciation for the martini action.

Currently located in New Brunswick...
Aye, the Martini Action, when beefed up for Express Cartridges, is the Strongest action, there is... It is also the fastest loading Single Shot out there... It's also a very reliable Action, I've yet to ever hear o' one failing...

That's a great project. Coincidentally, one of my PH/outfitters, this year, killed a lion in RSA with an original Martini using cast bullets and black powder.

That's awesome! Believe it or not, an awful lot o' Dangerous Game, including Elephants have been taken with a standard Black Powder Martini Service Rifle... .577/450 was a pretty potent Cartridge for its day... I'm looking to eventually build them in calibers such as .375 H&H. .458 Win Mag, ,458 Lott, .460 Weatherby Mag, & .577 Nitro Express...

I’d be interested in a 450/400 , I’ve discussed it before with other smiths and was told there wasn’t enough room in the action to load a bullet that long? Are you using your own actions or repurposed originals?

I'm going to be scratch building my own Actions... With Reinforced Pins & Breech-Blocks... They are right about a standard Martini Action, not being able to handle longer Cartridges... I've a couple o' Greener GP Martini Actions I'm in the middle o' Reverse-Engineering, at the moment... My Actions will be beefed up considerably, to handle heavy loads...

Interesting side note... The Martini Rifle actually beat out the Lee Enfield in speed trials... In the mad minute, the Lee Enfield was capable o' 30 aimed shots in 1 minute... The Martini was capable o' 40! The Lee Enfield was faster on 10 shot strings, but the reload time cost a lot o' time... In point o' fact, the Martini was walking proof o' the fact that "Slow & steady wins the race"... The Martini is still the fastest loading Single Shot, out there... Especially when paired with a good leather Shoulder Bandoleer... Not capable o' delivering a second shot, as fast as a Double Rifle, but mighty close...

You may have to change the feed angle as well in order to seat longer cartridges.

either way .460 Wtby is out Trudeau took care of that.

we had one in the family in .303 for many years, I hold a soft spot for them. Have you got any plans to modernize the small caliber ones as well?

Once a Get my DG Martini Action perfected, I've no objection to making small bore versions, as well... I've always been an obliging Gunsmith... If someone wants something bad enough, and is willing to pay for it... Why not? (P.S. I've always been fond o' .303... I've owned many .303 Rifles over the years...)

Welcome! Glad to have another expert on board to answer my ignorant gunsmithing questions.

I'm the 1st to admit, that I don't know everything... But, the knowledge I do possess, I generally share freely...(Although, I do have a few trade secrets, if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to survive in the business...Wink)... If you have any questions, feel free to message me, my inbox is open...

Thank you and I will !

Welcome aboard DGGunsmith. Have you by any chance figured out how to make CZ 550 rifles feed and run smoothly? There has been some Canadian interest on this in the past.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
