I’ve lurked on the forum for years, but having just returned from my first (hopefully of many!) African hunt I thought I should finally make an account. The site has been an invaluable source of information for me.
I am originally from Bangladesh but have been living and working in New York for about 15 years now. My family hunted quite extensively in Bangladesh and India prior to the bans, and between the stories, photographs, and taxidermy I encountered growing up, I always wanted to hunt; it was only in the last few years that I was finally able to make it happen.
After some years of pheasant hunts at Orvis Sandanona and other preserves in New York, I completed my first big game hunt for a red stag in Scotland. My father and brother were there for the trip which made this even more special.
I recently completed a successful 7 day hunt in the Limpopo Province of South Africa with Kok & Seyffert Big Game Hunting, booked through John McAdams at Big Game Hunting Adventures. We were able to take impala, blesbok, gemsbok, and kudu. I had an excellent experience and would recommend the outfitter without reservation. I am already planning to book another hunt with them, hopefully for Cape buffalo and maybe some other species that I saw on this trip.
For both hunts I invested quite heavily in rifle lessons at Griffin & Howe in New Jersey. They were able to tailor lessons for me appropriate for each hunt (lots of prone shooting at longer distances for red stag, and exclusively shooting off sticks, quickly, for Africa). It was certainly expensive but well worth the price in my opinion.
Looking forward to participating in the forum; I would be happy to elaborate on my admittedly quite limited hunting experiences.
