My wife and her sister are currently visiting relatives in Italy. They will eventually visit Phil Giordano's shop in Rome at the end of the visit.

Today they are in Slovenia doing the tourist thing. Now I’m wishing I went along. Maybe next time.

So, what is a must do in Slovenia. They will not be hunting. I’m sure my niece is a great tour guide in Slovenia. But any other suggestions ?

From Slovenia

I asked here if they had trout fishing or not. Have not heard back.

I have just returned from hunting in Slovenia.

Not hunting - Ljubljana, Lake Bled are the two biggest stops. Triglav National Park is very nice. That's where I hunted, it has something for everyone. The Kranjska Gora area of the park is just beautiful.

The streams have Brown and Rainbow trout, the lakes have those and others.

Thanks for the response. What were you hunting. The river in the picture above looks like it would hold trout

Went to Slovenia to hunt Chamois, but added on a Roe. I was in Croatia to hunt Red and Fallow.

I have a report posted. Slovenia is really an outdoor paradise. It’s not Switzerland, but neither is the pricing.

I should have went my wife and sister in law . They are now in Florence today and head to Rome tomorrow. They will meet up with Phil while in Rome. Hopefully we can plan a hunt for the next trip.

I met a couple from Slovenia a few years back. Very much an outdoor activity oriented country and culture. They wanted me to visit for trout fishing. I haven’t made it and suspect fishing there is a very “organized” affair. It seems the country is promoting all manner of tourism. The rivers look very appealing for fly fishing- similar to any large trout water here. They have a very unique variety of trout called the Marble or Marbled trout. Biologists, IIRC, believe that spp or sub spp or race to be a long isolated form of brown trout. Just google search “Slovenia marble trout” for info.

While I did not fish with this guy, I would suggest that he would be an excellent fishing guide for Slovenia. Pasat d.o.o. (The owner [Jozef] is an interesting guy. He graduated as a veterinarian, taught veterinary medicine at the University in Ljubljana for 8 years, received a Ph.D. in Fisheries and then spent 24 years as Director of Fisheries for Slovaina.)
