How bad is United Airlines

'never had 'em weigh the ammo in the US or Africa (just the bags). Count rounds in Africa? Yes. If it's written on the case, they just write that down (same thing written on temp import permit).

I haven’t flown with them to Africa, but I’m always surprised United gets such bad reviews for customer service. I fly at least once a month for work last 10 years. For North American carriers, United and Delta have always been best for getting me where I’m going. American loves to cancel my trip without rebooking me after I land in Dallas for a layover. Air Canada has always been the worst in all aspects. I really don’t think you know what you get until your trip starts unfortunately. They’ve all been good and bad at some point.
Air Canada bad? You must be joking ;)

Passengers kicked off Air Canada flight for refusing vomit-soiled seats ...

Honestly I group United in with all USA based carriers- avoid if at all possible!

We have little if any consumer protection laws in the USA for airlines and until our transportation secretary is replaced nothing will change.

They don't even charge extra for the included extra "food". You will be treated like "a problem" and asked to deplane if you are unsatisfied. Better service on a third world bus than Air Can'tada.

Can't comment on United, but (what was) Australia's great airline (Qantas) has gone woke; giving the Prime Minister's son access to their Qantas lounge, and moving an ex-Vietnam veteran from his paid-for first class seat to "cattle class" in favor of a company director. Bastids.

C.W., you're lucky. I should have been more specific - no, never a weight check on ammo in the US. At check in I provide a list of ammo - individual weight of each round in grams, number, and total weight.

It's Africa where it's been an issue.

As for the count, I have seen them count each round and I have seen them count by row and multiply.
It seems arbitrary and based on math skills.

That's the police - the airlines are only concerned with weight.

At IAH I’ve had ammo weighted at BA check-in. But at least the gate agent knew it was ammo weight and ammo weight and hard case.

that's insane. lotsa corruption/stupidity going on that can be countered with an IQ, PH with license (and in Zim the Tourism Agency of the gov't. will swiftly end such BS incidents!) I used Rifle Permits once in SA, but it's not necessary for those that can fill out the paperwork and speak intelligibly themselves. Some people just don't know how to read/interact with others, and they should have spokespeople. put another way (and it's now going on in America,) when an economy is down and inflation up, petty crime and low level govt official corruption (not to speak of our leaders LMAO) goes up to help make ends meet. i suspect it's been that way all along in Africa. We did almost have our rifles stolen by someone at Tambo pretending to be an official (leading me and the real-world equivalent of Croc Dundee down a dark corridor,) when my PH had enough and barked "SHOW ME YOUR CREDENTIALS" at which time he ran all the way back to Soweto!!! :p If you're not engaging and friendly (and even jovial!), hands in pocket sweating out your inspections, you're going to be taken advantage of. (It's no different in any puke city of the world.)

Man you hit the nail on the head. I didn't know how politically correct I needed to be on this forum - so thank you for the lead.

I've been going to Africa since the early 80's, I didn't hunt until 2018 - but I had some work related trips in the interim. Dealing with the bureaucracy has always been a challenge and often a limitation.

It took 2 days for me to get my US Pilot License converted to a Kenyan License because the guy doing it had to go page by page through 2 books the size of New York phone books before he got to the page with a picture of a US License. I don't think I need to explain why.

I had my copy of a form rejected by an official because it didn't match the one in front of him. Knowing it was the correct form, I looked at his - his was upside down. I took mine back, apologized, put it in my briefcase, turned it upside down and gave it back. Problem solved.

My question is; How long do we put up with this crap, and what can be done about it?

How do we hold these governments accountable - can we?

They have members of their respective tourism depts at the shows - are they approachable?

I was a Sr Capt at American Airlines and Manager of the International Flight Dept - I have offered to certain members of DSC to approach the airlines for some sort of standard interpretation of the rules. At least it could be a start on this side.

We are visitors in Africa. Like the Botswana pres said: Bots' decisions are their decisions (on wildlife mgmt.,) NOT the world's! I would just say choose your international hunting "partners" carefully. For me, it's like trying to do work in NYC (back when i had no choice at a big corporation as an employee; now NFW!)...cop shows up and essentially says "this is my street. I'm gonna needah fifteeee buckxxxszzz ev day dat ya heeyah. Ok???" LOL So we give him the money because the job is $500K or $Ms but he's essentially stupid, arrogant and corrupt (they go together!) FJB At least every single official, sans a "TSA-equiv. turnstyle controller" flipping out on entitled white women for speaking up about line issues that could be simply dealt with...She used all her "Power" to make those women sweat and feel little for a moment!" it was entertaining, but then she realized the rest of us were ok and she was holding flights up, so she let us all by....LOL Nothing serious, ever. Be concerned with hunting-conservation and encourage everyone to vote better next time! :p Trump, at the insistence of his hunting son even got involved in making it possible to once again import legally-hunted CITES species! ;) :) The citizens of a Country should HOLD THEIR OFFICIALS ACCOUNTABLE by all means possible. If they did that S. of our border, we'd have much less issues. If we go back to the 1500s we can place real blame, and perhaps they should be paying reparations such that the dirty bastards aren't invading our country like the costly ants they are. ;) Just today in my state: 2x illegal murderer escapes. Why did obama/clinton/biden Inc. let him in in the first place? Because international donors (puppeteers of the puppets!)

I have flown United, Turkish and Ethiopian to Africa the last couple of years. Had no trouble with the firearms on any of the flights and except for Turkish canceling a flight (United rep rebooked us on Ethiopian) I have not had any trouble

United is ok. Picking a good airline is basically picking the least worst.

Use air tags hidden in every bag, then one with you to see your location in relation to the others. They saved me when United lost my guns for days and I had to literally ask a CBP officer to walk with me to a baggage cart under the terminal to locate them via air tag.
