Thats why I called you 'stay alive'!

Well in a couple months if we see a nice Krieghoff 500/416 for sale by Mrs Still Alive in the classifieds we know what happened:Dead::A Outta:

Yep, I’ll second, third, fourth or whatever it is to keep the 375 H&H. If for no other reason than an Alaska bear hunt. I still like my 375 for an all round Africa hunt. Just hard to beat, but if I were focussed just for ele and buff, then the double is perfect! Admittedly I’m opinionated since croc requires the most accurate shot in Africa IMO.

That is indeed a beautiful build!
Krieghoff have been some of the best people to network & deal with. Went new through the factory/dealer & lucked out for stock Walnut & an excellent fit. The AH members here however deserve the credit in the decision to move on it. Circumstances dictate.

Respectfully,

I just purchased my first double rifle. Krieghoff 500/416 double with hard case 2016 In like new condition. I’m planning on going back to Africa in two years for crocodile, hippo and Cape buffalo. I think I’ll sell my Winchester 375 h&h when I take possession of the double.
Congratulations and welcome to the club!!!

Let us know how you and wife like the taste of chicken fried Back Strap of Hippo.
Deep fried hippo lips are better. Isn't that right @CAustin ??!

Beautiful gun,I have the same rifle, mine wears a Docter red dot site, only one buff to it's credit so far,I also load 300 Grainers in mine for plains game.

Congratulations, but I think you'll regret selling the 375 and will want it back someday if you do.

Congrats. I was eyeing that rifle too!!!

I think you will be very pleased. I just got back from a safari with my krieghoff 500/416 and it got the job done for elephant and Buffalo. I think the Caliber doesn’t get enough credit. It hits hard, penetrates like crazy, and is relatively pleasant to shoot in a rifle of reasonable weight.

Don’t go selling the 375. It would be like selling your spoon because you bought a fork. Doubles are hard to shoot compared to a bolt and are certainly more limited in practical range.

I was bidding on both the 500/416 and the 470 ne. The 500 came up first. I couldn’t pass it up. The 470 had a lot of bids but still went cheaper than the high. I really like the 375 bolt action.

Still alive, that surely is a beautiful rifle, maybe someday I'll luck into something like it.

I now have to wait ten days to taker it home!!! It’s in great condition. Only wear mark on the inside grip area of the wood and a small area on the trigger guard. A little bluing should fix that. Feels awesome in my arms, heavy and incredibly well built double. Almost have my recipe ready to reload. Just got the projectiles a few days ago.

Congrats @Still alive .

Just curious on how you decided on the caliber as I am not that familiar with it.

Regards,

A few factors, I’ve always wanted to hunt big game with a double rifle. I was looking at 470 and 458 lott. There’s a gentleman at the shooting range that shoots a 458 lott. He goes to Africa every year! I found that those are a little out of my price range while being married? After about two years of looking I found two guns on and auction site. The 500/416 which came up first and a 470 by the same maker. I pulled the trigger on the 500/416 as the price was so incredible. The 470 also went below but had more people bidding.

I did research on the 500/416 and found most shooters loved the caliber, loved the craftsmanship and fwd balance of the rifle. I read a lot of actual hunters using this rifle and enjoyed everything about it. Recoil was about the same as a 450? I’ll keep you posted on that.

I looked at the manufacture as well, nothing but the best has been the reported. I emailed the company for information on this rifle, while they didn’t have a copy of the ammo used back when it was built they told me what to start with. Customer service takes about two days to answer. To have it factory re regulated is about $350 with factory Ammo only.

if you need any of the information I’ve collected please pm me with an email address and I’ll send you everything I have collected. Articles, reload data and such. This site has great hunter info on using it as well.

Guys, it is easy, you just bribe the wife. My lady likes gems, a double is called that not because it has two barrels, but because it costs double.

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
