I feel as if I may have joined a cult. 35 whelen is the cartridge that will not only basically make you a better marksmen but improve looks, intelligence, sexual stamina.
I missed out on the first round of Lipsey’s Ruger African and regretted it and swore if they reissued I would have one, well any under 2000.00. Browsing GB several new ones have pooped up.
I browsed all of them and hot damn one ending on 6 hours and in Duncan, OK. I live in OKC so threw a bid and figured no way I would get it since after the initial allocation they were bringing big money. You know where this is going, I won…wooo hoooo $1500 rough all in.
I am retired so figured I would drive down and pick up so no damage in shipping. Lay eyes on the mythical beast that alluded me the first time. Huge let down, plain as she could be. Kinda like getting a blind date with one of five sisters in my home town. All were drop dead gorgeous, except the one. You guessed it that one came home with me.
1.5 hour drive home with plain Jane in back seat, also had to have the Bog death grip bipod. Now roughly 1850 on the most gawd awful 2x6 piece of furniture and sticky bolt imaginable. One of the other members here mentioned length of pull is a little off so finger on trigger also off.
Return trip home almost made it past the Casinos on I-44,almost, $3850 and still not home yet. During drive decided this piece of engineering excellence is a costly SOB and going to be a retro rifle for me.
Cheap, came with one inch rings so my extra Swarovski 5i’s or Leupold’s with illumination will not fit. Leupold VariX 3 3.5 10x40 from back of gun safe it is. LOP will be addressed with a cheap Tourbon leather lace up stock cover. 4 boxes of 2 different ammo from Optic Planet. $4000 and counting with free scope and rings.
Thanks! BobNelson35whelen, never listen to people from down under, they live their entire lives upside down and have been known to eat vegamite.
Hopefully range time next week, she best be a shooter or the classifieds will get a new listing.
:-) thanks Bob!

Did not even mention when you look in box paperwork says make sure on cross bolts are torqued, 95 pounds and other 65 pounds. You would think on a $4000 dollar rifle factory would torque, nope not on the mythical 35 whelen. Ask guy at shop to torque, Oh no Sir my torque screwdriver stops at 70 but no big deal just shoot it. We sell a bunch of em Rugers, never knew about the torque thing and no problem yet. I kinda enjoy safe gun operation so I will just order a screwdriver that will do it. Nope no way on Amazon so get my torque wrench but it is 1/2 inch drive so order a 1/4 inch drive torque wrench for one screw. Strange word screw, couple different meanings, wonder which one in my case.
But now proud owner of a 35 whelen.

Bob will be along shortly to congratulate you and help you on your path to proper enlightenment.
Also, when you mentioned the "screw" term , my mind immediately went to the line in your post about the rifle "pooped up" on GB. I could understand that it "popped up" but I just hope that your faux pas is not prescient
Gumpy

If you believe that you haven’t met Bob yet.

Improves looks? Haha, you haven’t met him have you? makes you a better marksman, wow, improves intelligence this is getting interesting, I’m stopping there I don’t want to know about his stamina.

Look, the smartest thing Bob done is stumble on a good all round calibre that made him a successful hunter. And now we have to bask in his light while he sings praise.

Congratulations on your purchase, I hope it is all Bob has said it is.

Considering the affair on the whole, pooped up is appropriate.

Bob would make a great televangelist here in the States. I fell for it. I refuse to believe he would ever say anything but truths. (Unless a good story needs embellishing. Or hard drink is involved.)

I bought my first .35 Whelen on my 18th birthday in 1992. Great cartridge, and has served me well on a wide variety of game. I now have 4 .35 Whelens, I don't consider it the be-all or end-all of cartridges though.

The recent Ruger walnut stocks are rather unappealing on the whole. Kind of a grayish flat look with no depth. There was a .35 Whelen African at a local gunstore a few months back, was tempted but figured I have enough of them. What is causing the sticky bolt ?

Thank you sir, I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waiter.

FWIW, When I picture Bob, I think of Paul Hogan with a bowie knife in one hand and a .35 Whelen in the other saying "that's not a roifle, this is a roifle." :ROFLMAO:
If Bob was an ambassador for Australia imagine what the world would think of us then.

Townsend @Bob Nelson 35Whelen prefers tomahawks over Bowie knives. Just saying. LOL

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
