My old Leupold RX-1000i TBR has finally faded to the point where it can't be used anymore. I called Leupold to see if it could be refurbished, but sadly it could not. They did offer me 30% off the purchase of a new one.

Looking at modern range finders, it seems most of them have plenty of range for me. So, it's really a question of quality and durability. My budget is probably around $400.

What range finder would you recommend?

Thank you

There are many good rangefinders; I've used Leica, Vortex and Leupold with great success and all are durable. Select the model with the options you want/need with the max range you hunt. Leica is a little pricy but very durable and accurate; the others are as good and less expensive. I've shot plains game in SA out past 400 yds all with extreme accuracy.

I had a chance to use the Sig Kilo 8k recently and it's pricy but well built and very impressive to use.

For $400 you can get an excellent slightly used Leica. Find one and I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Had that happen to my Leupold. They offered 50% and I upgraded to similar, newer model since it was familiar. Happy with my decision for how little I use it.

I bought a pair of Leupold binos 10x42HD with the range finder. Very pleased. Have compared them with the Swarovski and Zeiss. Way lighter and range quicker. I wouldn't spend the extra $2000.00

You can pick up a Nikon Prostaff on amazon for about 150.00. I have one and have never had any problem....

Leupold starts at about 200.00 at Bass Pro.....

Get the best one your pocket book will allow...

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
